Such things are why I really like this forum and its denizens.
Mate, when you joined CoG it was as subtle as a hand-grenade in a barrel of porridge.
Thank you Foghorn.
I feel attacked. I’m snowflaking.
It started with the tickets. Hours of entertainment there. Pretty much just been lurking about since apparently…
Hey bud, we’re just pulling your leg verra gentle…
We love you
Have we chased @Rizak away now?
If it were that easy, it would have been done years ago.
I was latecomer in 2013. I became a @Lee_Ars groupie since I just fell in love with his Ars Technica story of working at Babbages as a teen. I then stalked him to his forum and had to join…
Truth: I still have dreams—probably at least once every few months—about working at that job. Usually I’m my current age but for whatever reason am back working as like a temporary seasonal hire or something, and I’m always excited that I remember how to clean the shelves and run the POS.
Crazy how first jobs sometimes stick like that.
That’s understandable. It was a job in a field that you loved at the perfect age where you met your life partner. I’d say that’s a fairly seminal moment of your life.
I’m probably about a dozen years older than you and one of those idiots that plunked down $700 for a 3DO at the time, which my wife still gives me shit about. I did play a lot of Road Rash on that system and loved every minute of it.
My older brother has a Virtual Boy. I think it has about an hour of use.
That’s probably 56 more minutes than most other Virtual Boys on the planet.
I remember seeing one of those in my local Blockbuster circa 1995. It was set up with a demo of whatever Mario game they made for it. I remember thinking the 3D effect was cool but everything else was “meh” especially that monochrome screen.
I used to dream about my first job working retail. I’ve also dreamed about returning to a previous job that was pretty low-stress but I know I couldn’t afford it and the move would be a difficult sell.
