# I'm burnt out. Now what?

The network guys at $currentjob seem to be off the clock quite a bit.

I would suggest revisiting that? Unless you inherit some POC network cobbled together with Linksys and D-Link routers, I would think being a Network Engineer would have little contact with lusers or their Manglement? Yes, there’s always the possible middle of the night ISP outage which you get awakened for, but your pay should reflect the possible “on call” nature of the job. Here, I’d rather be a Network guy than a Server guy. Our network is usually fairly stable whereas sometimes our servers not so much. The Server guy is always building servers and VM’ing them and moving them and snapshotting them and backing them up and restoring files the lusers have managed to lose. The Network guy works with ISP’s and configures MPLS lines and VPN routes across the WAN and only ocassionally needs to work late when we tear down whole depts and move them to new offices.

At last!! Someone who correctly uses the word ‘segue’ and doesn’t allow their spell-checker to mutate it into ‘Segway’.

Maybe I should post this in the ‘What made you happy?’ thread. 🙂
