Accelerating, or reaccelerating, the incandescent light bulb ban is a pain in my industry. To remelt solidified honey the easiest method is a warming box using one or two light bulbs and a dimmer switch, LEDs will not generate enough heat. To store honey, often people will warm a closet or pantry with a bulb to keep the honey liquid for a bit longer. Some people use them to keep pipes from freezing, or in my mother’s case, wine. There are many applications where heat isn’t the waste product but the desired effect. Applications where a heat lamp isn’t desirable or is too dangerous. But that’s ok, they keep making washers and toilets worse too. ---

What about a reptile ceramic heat bulb? No light, just heat. I use those for chicks. ---

Brad Garrett has been doing commercials as a competitor of “Jimmy’s Johns” that sells a “bread-like substance”. Danny DeVito doesn’t play a specific character, but he is making commercials for Jersey Mike’s Subs. I really want to see one of them show up in the other’s commercial. ---

Kia, I know the way they way your new logo is made, it does spell out “KIA”. Every time I see it, it looks like KИ (K, backwards N). In other random news, I just learned that the standard character sets for fonts like Arial include the Latin NJ character. Since the mixed case and lowercase variations are included, you can spell “ninja” using just four characters (ninja) or even just two if you go more phonetically (nja). I really want to send someone an MS Word document that includes the four-character ninja and see how long it takes them to find out why the word is misspelled. Or does that fall into the “that’s just evil” category? ---

While looking for other information here, I came across what I wrote back in [February 2018](https://cog.discourse.group/t/random-musings-and-associated-non-sequiturs-v-3-0/478/2901) in this topic. It was how the “your grandchild needs to be bailed out of jail” scam was getting a boost by software that can take a recording of a person’s voice and turn it into text-to-speech processing. Run the scam late at night when a grandparent may still be trying to wake up after the answering the phone and it has a better chance of succeeding. While theorizing about all the problems this could occur, I said “Now comes the fact that we shortly may not be able to trust that an audio recording is actually from a person. We’ve already got that with video and pictures.” At the time, I meant that graphics and video programs allow you to edit and manipulate existing media. In the five years since then, we’ve added deepfakes and more widespread AI-generated material. Give it a few reference points and AI will create new content from existing content. It’s had benefits, such as allowing actors to play younger versions of themselves (with varying degrees of success). It’s gonna be interesting watching this develop. ---

Due to being away for a couple weeks we had a nest of finches on our front porch. They’ve been shoved out by doves now. The doves are much bigger and the chance of a larger egg surviving in the nest they’ve taken over is unlikely… but doves and pigeons are known for terrible nests.
