After 420 hours of gameplay in Starfield, I’ve finally managed to get every achievement checked. Whew, that was a slog for a while.
I was sooooooooo wrong.
so was it bad? I havent heard really anything on it since it launched.
It’s an amazing game. The details just blew me away. Completely unique locations for simple missions or plot points that were intricately laid out for no apparent reason.
The companion quests were a lot of fun, but there are a lot of bugs left. I was able to establish a committed relationship and marry 3 of the 4 at the same time, with only one relegated to ‘friend’ status. It’s kind of weird wandering around the ship and having everyone onboard flirting with me as I pass.
The space combat is pretty good, if a bit nerfed in your favour if you get the right combination of skills. Of course, by the time I finally got to level 100, I could just evaporate anything that presented itself to my viewscreen.
I played through most of the main missions in about 40 levels. There is a built in function that allows you to become a ‘greater being’ (Starborn) and start the whole thing over again with only your skills and knowledge (research credits) carrying over. You get a fancy set of armour and a new ship, and you can choose to redo everything as before, or to play it as a knowledgable being. Your choice as you progress. This is called the New Game Plus (NG+). It’s a bit dumb, but really the only way to keep playing and gain those levels. You can do this multiple times, ganing a new and more powerful suit of armor and ship each time. I did it 3 times and am just about to do it a fourth time. I paid for the first DLC, but that won’t come out until spring 2024, so before I run through the final mission, I want to get that done.
There is skill-building, crafting, resource mining, combat, space combat, romance, danger, true love, it’s like The Princess Bride. It can get a bit repetitive for some things, but hitting all the outposts and running through every mission can be a lot of fun.
At the end, I would up just spam-crafting a bunch of stuff just to earn XP for the last 8 levels to get the last achievement (Level 100).
I don’t know how much replay potential there is. There seems to be a lot of stuff that could be filled in and new plot points added if they really wanted to. Named NPCs that don’t seem to have a purpose in the locations they are encountered, ships and locations and satellites, etc.
I’d give it a 9/10, but I haven’t played any AAA list titles in about 20 years.
I’ve been playing a few:
More MW5:Mercs tips. Try to hit enemy mechs when they being deployed with the dropship hovering above the ground. If you can hit them while falling, you might get in a critical shot, or damage a leg to slow it down once it lands.
The David star system is located in an oval-shaped conflict zone that straddles the Draconis Combine and the Federated Commonwealth (red and yellow) on the map. One of the missions has a spawn point is located on the hill above the pick-up point. It seems to act like a teleport because some of the enemy mechs that were over 2km away would disappear and suddenly appear there.
Because I was using that same spot as a sniper position, some of them didn’t appear until I moved away and bingo, here’s mechhy!
If you like Freelancer, someone’s trying to replicate the gameplay. I would have to check, but I think that’s among the many I bought but haven’t played yet.
I’ve started playing Trails in the Sky again. My old controller still works! You don’t need the controller, but the game is so Final Fantasy like that I feel odd if I don’t use a controller for it.
My SteamDeck will be here today, I plan on sideloading lots of games from my childhood that the batteries have crapped out on—namely the Bionicle games, Pokemon Crystal, and some other stuff.
And I’ve got many custom games that will work on the deck not including the games on steam.
As a follow-up, does anyone know of good “archival” sites where i can obtain “backups” of my games?
Timberborn
Last one is a bit weird, but it’s kind of fun and relaxing as they just kind of run around doing their assigned tasks and the art style works well with it. The game allows stacking many structures so you can build “skyscrapers” of warehouses, residences, and related buildings when not trying to make sure you have enough food and water to survive the Drought season, when the water flow goes away (which also powers much of your industry) or the Badtide season (when radioactive waste contaminates your water supply, and possibly your beaver workers).
It’s still in active development and no idea where the developers are going really. A neat twist is the Badwater is dangerous, but useful: it’s a key component to make explosives and several other ‘late game’ resources along with metal reclaimed from human ruins.
The post apocalyptic aspects are minor, mainly occasional references to “why did humanit6 screw this up so much?” and similar.
Palworld, along with everyone else.

Totally randomly, a sponsored video for the game came up in my YouTube feed last night. It looks sorta neat.
That’s pretty much it other than some sort of maple syrup food item. There’s about as many Canadian references as there are ‘body part euphemism’ jokes, which they leave to the player community.
Never mind, it is shockingly easy to find archived games.
EMUdeck is a steam deck custom compiler and runner for emulators, and it is insane how well it just works. My only issues have been remapping controls(and that is easy) and then for WiiU titles has been it wanting a second screen to use. But otherwise, I’m blown away.
The Steamdeck runs Cyberpunk 2077 at 60fps in about medium settings like a dream. Everything I’ve tried is great. It runs Halo Infinite as good or better than the Xcloud and switching to the Linux desktop mode, it is a full-on computer. I could 100% get rid of my Windows desktop and be fine. i probably will honestly. I can run turbo tax, surf the web, watch movies, and download my non-steam games. I am sold Valve, kicked it out of the park.
Is Muscular Beaver a playable character?
You could certainly rename one that in Timberborn.
I found out today that despite previous experiences and Beavers miraculously avoiding the inevitable, you can blow them up if they are too close to dynamite when it goes off. At present this is entirely player-driven as I don’t believe maps spawn it and it only explodes when detonated by the player.
Not Fallout 4. I managd to b0rk it somehow completing a Far Harbour quest. Gonna back up my save files and probably do a reinstall after my new SSD gets installed today.
