I think Lucas blames all the bad stuff on his ex-wife, and from everything I’ve read she was the source of all the good stuff. Han Solo being a smuggler of questionable morality was her, Empire going as dark as it did was her, just a hair made it through Jedi. I’m positive the reason he can’t stop fucking with them is something in his head trying to erase her from his most famous works.
So, he looks himself in the mirror and tells himself it was all her, and that the prequels would have been better if the originals hadn’t been tainted in the first place, and hopefully Captain Lensflare will listen better.
Ugh, yeah, I hear he’s in a 12 step program to get over his lensflare addiction.
But seriously, all the “JJ Abrams apologises for lens flare” stories that hit the news about a year ago were a big relief.
Wasn’t that before Star Trek II, The Wrath of Lensflare though? Was that the last time they let him use photoshop on the original file?

Before it was released, his wife told him it was too much. I believe they had to have ILM go in and digitally remove some of the flare. (Ha, reminds me of flair)
