My mom used a short grain white rice that was much closer to 1:1 for water and rice. But what you listed is about the same as what I do for long-grain rice.
THEY PUT TALC ON IT???
Yep. To keep bugs out.
But that shit causes cancer! WTFâŚ
They didnât know that back then. They knew it wasnât good for you, which is why the rice had to be rinsed, and rinsed, and rinsed until the water ran clear.
I learned something new.
I just figure you wash the starch off and it tastes better, just like spuds.
I canât say that Iâve ever washed/rinsed rice.
Remember the first time you used my rice cooker and it sputtered, made weird noises, and leaked because you didnât rinse the rice? Thereâs another reason to rinse it.
I didnât use to, but I got a real rice cooker and it says I have to, and I am so glad I started. Now even if make it in a pot I rinse it and it is better.
I rinsed it just not wellâŚ
But yeah i 100% forgot about that.
Fair point. The method I described should have a âlong grainâ qualifier.
