Looking for a good Visual Basic for Excel/Access Book

Visual Basic has saved my arse a few times when it comes to laborious, tedious-heavy spreadsheet work, but I’m only as good as Google lets me be. So I wanted to take initiative and have an understanding of the code I use. Sure, I get that certain codes I’ve researched “makes it go”, but why does it? What is it actually doing? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!

So, if any of you have suggestions, I’d really appreciate it. I’ve taken a gander at the local bookstore and found Visual Basic for program creation and that’s not really what I’m after. In fact, about 90% of the books for Visual Basic were for writing code to create a program. I’m really after having the knowledge to create Macros in Excel and Access.

It sounds like your looking for Visual Basic for Applications. I took a class on that about twelve years ago, but don’t remember much of it. Here are some books the I found, but I can’t vouch for the quality of them…

Excel 2013 Power Programming with VBA - Microsoft’s book
Visual Basic for Applications - This looks a lot like the book I used for the class I took, and considering the publishing date might even be the same book.
VB & VBA in a Nutshell: The Language - O’Reilly has a good reputation for their books.

I have tried to use Visual Basic a few times, and even looking through all of the functions and procedures, couldn’t find a way to make it do what I wanted to.

I just gave up. Certain things I have had to do by hand, others I can do relatively well in Excel without it.

But it would be nice to be able to use an Access db for some things that don’t really fit in a spreadsheet and are difficult to organize in a Word doc.

I just hate Access.
