Just spent two hours today arguing why our operations manager is incredibly underpaid and the only thing the other manager brought up is that “nobody really makes that” to which I responded that it doesn’t matter bc that is what she is worth and you are going to lose a dedicated and long-term highly trained and highly leveraged employee over like $3/hr?? You will never be able to hire an equivalent replacement at what you want to pay, and you’d have to start from scratch. Ffs get your head out of your arse and learn what your staff does for their jobs. She has no clue what this person’s job entails. Blames it on the fact they rarely work together. Bitch you are the OWNER OF THE HOSPITAL. It is your responsibility to know exactly what goes on at every level of your facility. Omfg this is going so well.
Fill your glass TO THE TOP and unwind.
I’m hoping that with a few days to think about it she will see the error of her ways.
I spent the last two nights sitting on my back deck listening to the fish pond. Tonight I will probably rage clean my house because I get to start demo for the floors. This is not a fight I’m going to give up. I’m going into work early to get some more stuff done. She might not spend her time managing the place but I sure am.
Well let’s see. Said employee got her raise. Others claimed they didn’t realize I was saying she should make 60k a year and thought I said 80k. Whatever. She got her raise.
Not going to management meetings anymore. Have pretty much stepped back from anything since I can’t get any info at all. I’ll just do my own stuff and you can handle the other crybaby doctors. I get paid either way.
Related to that, I’m constantly asked to “deal” with the Drs when they are doing something “wrong”. Sadly, since they have still not codified and distributed the rules, I have nothing to enforce. Guess they should have listened. I’ll just keep putting suggestions into the group chat and they can let me know when they decide on a rule. I won’t be enforcing anything until then.
Okay, yeah, I see the points … but you have to make your position clear as well. If they’re just going to assume that you’ll take care of it and you don’t, it will be worse. If you want things to change quickly, you need to tell them what you just wrote here.
Funnily enough, I did just that after our lovely $125/plate vendor dinner tonight. And told them we need to start doing monthly Dr meetings and zoom is just fine. So we shall see. I flat out said that if we don’t say what’s expected then I have no leg to stand on.
Well, we’ve made a tiny bit of progress. Rules and policies are actually being made, albeit slowly. Instead of bundling up a bunch of issues and springing them on people (at all levels of the staff) we are trying to address them as they occur. Which is always my preference. Sill not having Dr meetings but at least now we have a plan to have one more long meeting (most likely in Jan on a weekend we are closing for upgrades) and then do monthly zoom meetings. So that’s goodish.
And she officially gave me a job Monitoring controlled drugs. Which is a disaster. Nothing matches. Currently doing a complete accounting of the entire safe. Ugh.
And somehow I have become responsible for doing doctor progress reports. Now I get to meet with the new drs and go over all the issues that we have seen. Not exactly a review but areas to improve. With no training, of course. So we’ll be doing a crash course of reading and Coursera lectures to make sure I’m doing it right. At least they’ll be getting me some courses on management. Or so they’ve said.
In keeping with previous actions, I’ve still not received any sort of training. This matches every other falsehood I’ve been told. Like, we will keep you info med of all major purchases (apparently dental radiography doesn’t count as major), we will loop you in on the new building (had to ask for info), and we will have meetings to touch base on things every couple of weeks (none yet). At this point I’m going to have to assume they have no intention of doing any of it, and I’m not going to do anything without specific instructions and documentation.
Is that grounds for a breach of contract suit?
Nope. Sadly, no. I’ll just look at it as extra money every quarter and not do anything extra. Just dumb that they won’t do the simplest of things. Seems harder to not include me than to update me.
If they include you then you might point out that the emperor is not actually wearing any fucking clothes. Then they would have to reengage their brains and find reasons that you are wrong and then later they have to retcon more to cover up that they are the real idiots here.
