Movie reviews

For real. I laughed my ass off.

Oh, and if you haven’t seen it yet, stay through the credits - there is an end credit scene.

Watched Despicable Me 4 and it was hilarious to hear Through The Fire And Flames by Dragonforce.

If you know, you know.

Career advice for male actors: Be careful about accepting a role where you are playing the love interest of Blake Lively.

And just before you get to it, take a close look at the special thanks in the credits. I only caught part of one.

I might go back and see it at a different theater next weekend. This one had the bass turned up so high, I actually put a hand over my ear to muffle some of the loud sounds during the previews.

The January Man (1989)
There is a surfeit of amazing acting talent in this one. It’s been a while since we watched it, but it was still really enjoyable. 35 years later and I laughed and cried. Watch it if you can find it.

There are three weeks left before Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail comes to an end. If you want to see them, you need the app for your phone. It’s more up to date than the PDF map is. I created a page on the LAIKA Films Wiki that provides clearer descriptions about where each sculpture is located.

Watched Dungeons and Dragons, was nice to see a tale from Icewind Dale country.

Just a delightful romp without considering plot holes etc. Just a bit of escape from the drudgery of life.

There was a movie I wanted to go see but will have to wait until next weekend. By that time, it may be completely out of theaters.

Francis Ford Coppola has wanted to make a movie for decades about the Catilinarian conspiracy set in modern times. He finally got it made and released this year by self-financing it.

Between the initial ad that was identified as having fabricated critic reviews of Coppola’s previous films (he was going for “see how they were wrong about me in the past” marketing), alleged on set sexual misconduct by him, not great actual reviews and having a dry spell of only releasing two films in the last 15 years, Megalopolis had the cliched “two weeks and out” release in my area. By next weekend, it may be gone even if I’m willing to drive 30+ miles to see it. When I factor in the cost of food at the theater and having to pay for parking, it’s probably going to be wait for the DVD for me.

I thought for sure I had mentioned this movie before but I can’t find it. There’s a comedy called “Hundreds of Beavers”. Maybe it’s a silent film. Can’t really tell from the trailer.

Gist seems to be a man was sleeping out in the woods, wakes up and sees all of the trees beavers cut down, leaving the pointy stumps. He thinks to himself, “You know, of course, this means war” and hijinks ensue.

The updated trailer says it’s coming back to theaters for one day only in December, but if you check the website, it may be playing on other days. For example, there’s a showing a week next Tuesday and three in December not too far from the area that still had Megalopolis last week, but that one is now officially out of theaters. Otherwise, catch it on Apple TV or Amazon Prime.

I’ll watch this one with my friend on the weekend. Thanks.

Knights of the Zodiac is more targeted at teens, and I did not enjoy it.

Watched Family Pack, and it was enjoyable, but reminded one strongly of the original Jumanji.

If you you loved Osmosis Jones and it’s follow-up TV series Ozzy & Drix, then why not check out Japan’s take on it?

First was Cells at Work!, the manga series with several spin-offs, the Cells at Work anime series, a different anime series titled Cells at Work!!, a light novel, stage play, mobile app, and finally, a live-action film.

Disney’s getting a lot of criticism for going to the well too many times by making live-action versions of their animated movies. Coming up in March is Snow White.

Someone made a song out of the comments for the preview and one of those comments was “Why is Lord Farquaad playing Snow White?” Once you see the images below, you can’t unsee the resemblance.

Not everything’s going to be the same from one version to the next, but once the decision was made to change Snow White’s hair style from the animated film and it was put on Rachel Zegler, how did no one making the film say, “Wait a second… Doesn’t that look like the guy from Shrek? You know, the guy and the kingdom he rules that were put in by DreamWorks to make fun of Disney?”

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

Just found the original videos. Here they are. Part 1 and part 2:

In truth, it probably won’t be a bad film and everyone’s trashing it because they can. With the original hair style, people might be a tiny bit more accepting. Is a month and a half enough time for a team of CGI artists to change her hair? Or would that make things worse because of how rushed it would have to be?

They’re bigger!
They’re badder!
They’re too much for the human race!

This July, witness a trip to the original research island facility for Jurassic Park, led by Black Widow herself, Scarlett Johannson. Their mission, which they chose to accept, is to gather samples that could lead to medical breakthroughs for humans.

Come out to the coast. We’ll have a few laughs. And screams. Lots of screaming. So much screaming. And running. “Hello, I’m Zora Bennett. Basically, run!”

I thought a volcano erupted in JW2 and buried the island. Am I remembering wrong?

Aren’t the “World” movies set on a separate island? To be honest I never got around to watching them, so could be wrong.

I remember the novels and earlier movies had a second site: basically the ‘theme park’ had some facilities for animal care, research, and (mainly) to put on a good show while a second island was the main production facility.
