RIP Thread

And my condolences too. 2020 can go fester in the Great Pit of Carkoon with the Sarlacc.

Knuckleballer Phil Niekro, 81

Luke Letlow at age 41 from COVID-19, just five days before he would have been sworn in as a Louisiana Congressman. He tested positive 11 days ago.

This is the kind of thing that scares me about this virus. My stepfather was 73 and had pre-existing conditions. I always figured that if he got it, that was the end of the road and that’s exactly what happened. This guy was younger than me.

Dawn Wells of ‘Gilligan’s Island’ fame, of COVID related complications at 82.

Met her at MidOhioCon once. Gave her a extra large Hershey bar and she said she’d been given coconut cream pies before, but never chocolate. Very nice and very funny and way cuter than Ginger.

Tommy Lasorda, legendary LA Dodgers Manager, 93

My grandfather (who would be 95 this year) used to get mistaken for him occasionally.

Siegfried Fischbacher, of Siegfried and Roy, 81, of pancreatic cancer

Joanne Rogers, wife of Fred Rogers, 93

Phil Spector, a very influential person in the world of music, at age 81. One place is reporting it’s from natural causes while another said it was from complications due to COVID-19. He had been in prison following the conviction for killing actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. An article from the New York Daily News said that he went mute around January 2014 due to throat polyps.

Pierce O’Loughlin, age 9, killed on Wednesday by his father, who then killed himself. Causes: Stephen O’Loughlin and Lesley Hu divorced in 2016 and had an ongoing custody battle over Pierce. Hu filed for sole legal custody in 2020. In it, she mentioned Stephen’s “growing adherence to the anti-vaccine movement”. Mental illness and domestic violence were also a factor.

That makes me very sad. I hate it when people go off the deep end and take innocents with them.

Oh man, another one from COVID-19. “Miss Betty” of the night shift at the Coosa Valley Medical Center in Alabama.

Betty Grier Gallagher had been an ER nurse for 50+ years and was a mentor to a lot of younger nurses. When COVID-19 hit, her co-workers asked her to stay home. She didn’t and kept working because she was dedicated to her job. The virus got her on December 19 and took her on January 10. On the 11th, she would have been 79.

Clarice. The best girl ever. Silent but strong. I’ll miss her terribly.
