Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

Would have shut down the concealed carry reciprocity crowd too. My facebook exploded with arguments on that. An NC concealed carry permit is legal in 36 states, a familiar number, and unlike marriage, the right to bear arms is a right listed in the constitution.

Just saying they don’t want this to apply to that isn’t going to cut it.

Turns out that was a bunch of hooey. Odd that he didn’t clarify that before the decision was made, though.

We are not going to bow, we are not going to bend, and if necessary we will burn.

Calling this a pastor threatening to set himself on fire is typical clickbait rigamarole. It’s like when someone opens the door, and then something strange happens! Like someone walks through it and high fives them, not all that fucking strange, but you clicked sucker.

Same shit I see when “Obama promises gun confiscation!” and it turns out he mentions Australia as a Gun Control example. And yes the Aussies confiscated guns, but that’s not the same damn thing. Ask Pelosi for a sound bite on that, or any number of congresscritters, an awful lot of the anti gunners have called for it by name.

How the hell do you “privatize” marriage?

This happened the day after the ruling:

That little girl is in first grade. I don’t know what grade the guy is in.

The Daily WTF has an article that mentions this ruling as essentially created a new problem similar to Y2K, which is a lot of computer programs now have to be updated to reflect the new statuses. Some people in Kentucky know how to print out a form and use a pen to write down the changes, but “new clerks may not know they can do that”.

Thankfully in the insurance world we’ve been working companies that cover domestic partners for ages. The interesting part is the fact that due to some local law changes over the years the language that a lot of groups had to prevent hetero couples from using this coverage has been made illegal.

I expect 90% of those companies to just switch back to married.

It should have an impact on underwriting, but I doubt that the percentage of legally married homosexuals is going to be high enough in most companies to make a difference. And we’ve already been using spouse instead of husband and wife.

I’m sure our friends in Canada will find these claims ludipulsive.

Here is what has taken place in Canada during this past 10 years: According to The Witherspoon Institute, what followed was truly Orwellian in nature and scope. Freedom of speech, press, religion and association does not exist in Canada today. If anyone writes anything considered “homophobic” (including by definition, anything questioning same-sex marriage) one will face discipline, termination of employment, or prosecution by the government. This is today!

Also, supposedly children have a “right” to be raised by their “natural” parents. Which is somehow violated by having both parents listed on birth certificates as “legal parent”. I honestly thought children had a “right” to have loving, supportive parents, but that doesn’t fit the narrative, I guess.

This was happening in Canada, Britain, and chunks of Europe without gay marriage. People have decided that free speech doesn’t cover hate speech. Which is shit, but whatever. If you’ve ever participated in an online exchange on a British paper that gets at all contentious you start seeing people reporting each other for hate speech, and citing this reg and that reg that say you can’t say this or that about people.

Reading sites like that is almost as entertaining as reading about FEMA camps in downtown Indy, and chemtrails, and holistic medicine. Take a fact, force it to be related to whateverthefuck you are cheesed about right now, then run around screaming about it until someone notices you.

I think I’ll end up voting for the Republican candidate for president that ignores questions on gay marriage as settled law.

I’m tired of politicians pandering to people that would vote Republican anyway. And it’s a stupid stance to lose votes from people that would agree with you except for one thing. Now, the issue is during the primary they are all going to be playing run to the right as hard as they can. Kind of like how Clinton is going to have to be a communist to beat Barry.

I love my canuckistan friends, but their free speech protections are not very robust. That has nothing at all to do with homosexuality.

You mean Bernie?

Yes. Bernie. Same mistake in two different threads, at least I’m consistent.

As a life-long Barry Sanders fan, I’m finding it all very amusing. Like, how did he find time for all that campaigning while he was going to college and training for the Lions? And he always spoke so gently on the football field…what’s with all the anger now?

I think the Ashley Madison scandal is hilarious, coming at this time in history.

And this is one of my favorite barbs about it.

I had no idea you had to pay to deregister, that’s awesome.

And just like many of the people who use the system, they didn’t really delete all that old contact information, they kept it around just in case.

From what I understand, you could close your account for free, but were presented with an option to pay extra for a super-duper account delete, that removed your messages with other people from their inbox, but without actually deleting your info. To me, making the super delete option look like the only way to close your account, and as you mentioned, not really deleting your info are what earns them the BS flags.

This guy has an interesting take on the patchwork marriage laws.

While I think that the CNN reporter is begging the question of the couple doing this to make a statement, the real statement is being made by the people crowded into the office. They are not there to conduct business, they are there to make it harder for people to do business with the County Clerk, and they are there to terrorize people seeking a marriage license.

This is why I say that evangelism is a mental illness. This is a behavior you would expect from someone severely mentally ill.

I just don’t understand the guy in the background. I’m Christian, I have my beliefs, some of which would differ from other Christians, I’m sure. Certainly, “religion” would say that I try to share my beliefs with all that I come into contact with. I think what this guy is doing isn’t helping anything or anyone. It’s been said a million times. Screaming at people that they’re wrong isn’t going to perk up anyone’s ears. They’re going to look at you like the idiot you’re portraying yourself to be.

I believe most people feel judgement should only come from authority. This is just another guy screaming whatever he wants at people. It’s just not the way you get your message across.
