What game are you playing today?

Did you ever play Renegade? That was a lot of fun.

Far Cry 5, finished the disappointing ending to the regular campaign. Hitting the Vietnam doc now.

Also Valheim with my daughter and its awesome

Not til way after, but it is a lot of fun!

Last few weeks, mostly Star Wars: The Old Republic. I was one of the original players 10 years back (before free to play) and it keeps drawing me in again every few years. I paid for a few months as a subscriber so I could burn through and actually finish the class storylines for a few, which I’d never done before. I mostly play it as a single-player experience, though my younger son plays with me sometimes.

Also this morning, started playing Battletech, which I’d bought on sale from GOG a few months ago but couldn’t run on my deployed laptop. The phase/turn system is a little confusing, but it definitely evokes the tabletop Battletech experience of my childhood…

I picked up Wow to play with a few friends. its crack. i hate mmo’s solo (final fantasy 14 doesnt count that game is a dream) but with friends, im having so much fun.

I’ve been playing Ghost Recon: Wildlands on PC lately. Managed to put in 143 hours on it so far and finished it once, playing it over again. I’ve played Ubisoft open-world games before and there’s just something about this one that keeps me coming back. Yes, it’s repetitve. Yes, there are issues. Yes, there are better games to play. But it’s just plain fun to play for me.

For some reason I’ve been toying with the idea of starting to play Elder Scrolls. Most likely just Skyrim but maybe buy all the PC version. Offline, as I’m not a great online player. Is it worth it still? Thought about the switch version but it’s expensive and I’ve heard grumblings about it. Luckily I have a friend who has it so I’m going to borrow it first. But really, is the PC version worth it?

My old roommate played it to death. I never got into it, though.

HumbleBundle has a good deal on Skyrim SE, which includes the three DLCs. I bought it even though I had the original and I love it. I probably play it way too much. I’ve added a lot of mods to mine, though. Extra quests, the ability to become a bard and actually perform, and a bunch of environment tweaks. It’s really easy to add mods through Nexus.

If you play Overwatch, you likely have already seen the animated shorts. For those that haven’t, like me, here’s one of the videos that spliced all 18 of them into one movie, but did it in chronological order. Based on this, I’d watch an Overwatch TV show even if I never played the game.

And one of the voice actors. (Another edit: Blooregarde Q. Kazoo’s voice actor’s in Overwatch?)

I’m playing Fallout again. I can’t help it. The Call of the Glow is strong.

Anyone got any Rad-X?

Still playing Skyrim SE but I’m up to 147 mods for it, which really has made it a different game in some ways.

Ah, I see you have somehow installed infinite RAM, wherever did you buy it?

Took a break from Wildlands and started playing The Division. Part of me was dreading that it would basically be Borderlands all over again (memories of tediously grinding gear in Borderlands 2 are still fresh), but I was glad to see that it wasn’t. It’s definitely a looter shooter, but much slower paced and a tad more tactical with a better loot table, likely due to how old the game is now. Just made it to World Tier 2 last night and I’m still enjoying it.

I played Wing Commander for about 2 minutes until I figured that I couldn’t easily find a way to dial back the speed of the mouse movement. It was basically unplayable because I couldn’t control my movements.
Memories were kindled on seeing the first few screens, but I don’t really need it.
Ah, well.

Well, I’m hooked on Skyrim. Playing in the Switch and I can’t stop. I should go to bed soon but I need to finish this quest… :woman_facepalming:t3:

I wasn’t playing it, but I watched the 25 minute walkthrough of the new Portal ‘game’ for the new SteamDeck. It was amusing.

Heardle.

So far I’m getting about one in every five or six songs.

Edit: What drives me nuts - and today’s one did this - is when you skip and the next “clue” is is just the same riff played again. Today’s did that four at least four skips.

I had some rare free time and gave Dice Legacy a try. I tried it on Switch: Many of my complaints may matter less on other platforms. It was on sale.

It’s a fun idea. Basically it’s a common-ish mechanic for tabletop games where special fancy dice equate to the ‘classes’ of characters in your band as you do stuff. A die is essentially a ‘worker’ in the context of a ‘worker placement game’ with the twist that you might need a specific face rolled to use the worker in a specific ‘socket.’ Like there’s a “gathering” action, and dice with that action can be used on forest tiles (to harvest lumber) but not on a field (which takes a different ‘harvest’ action). You an upgrade those device: Initially you have Peasant dice which can be upgraded to Citizens, Soldiers, and others: Soldiers don’t have any Harvest/Gather actions on their dice, but have lots of Swords (which Peasants have 1) and such, and even a single Build.

The first oddity is that Dice have ‘endurance’ which is a number that has to be tracked, so breaking the ‘tabletop’ paradigm. Dice that are assigned a task or re-rolled lose a point of endurance, while assigning them to the Cookhouse (and giving them a Food) restores a bunch. It’s pretty manageable, but odd. It feels like something added initially to reduce frustration, which can occur.

You place a die or two in a building, maybe “authorize” use of a resource or two, and then there’s a countdown to the location doing it’s thing, which produces resources.

The bad stuff is that there’s a lot of buildings and they look surprisingly identical. You need the pop-ups to tell various buildings apart. There’s a bit of “twitch” in that you have to toss Sword dice at attackers and such.

The Switch controls are poor at best. One ‘feature’ of the game is that it’s played on a Ringworld, which from the bit I’ve played is mostly a justification to be played as a narrow ‘strip’ of land to be explored and conquered. Still, the ‘ring’ is up-down and you need to move around on it a lot, so it’s mapped to the L-R trigger buttons. The number of times I’ve hit the wrong button is high.

I love the idea and want to go back to it… Definitely not until I’ve unpacked the Switch Dock as it’s very small on the built-in screen.I think an issue is I need to get into sync with the ‘speed’ of play the game expects. It’s not a slow, patient game, but nor is it a twitch game.
