What Made You Happy Today?

I forgot to get mine at my last treatment.

It’s super windy and in the 40s outside. I still don’t have a house to live in, but it’s 70 in the greenhouse with no wind.

It was pretty cold this morning when it was sleeting, though.

Phillies going to the World Series! W00T!

Increase of 4% to my salary.

Better than nothing, given the situation. Can’t find any work, and it’s partly due to being white.

State is now enforcing employment of blacks, and any company who will not kowtow, will get fined 10% of their turnover.

So, racism is alive and well.

Harvesting our own honey.

I may have posted this elsewhere, so I do apologize for that.

I know someone in Wyoming that sends me some of his home harvested honey each year. It’s in his own words, " The best honey that money can’t buy."

He sends it to people he likes and refuses payment of any kind. He won’t even take small gifts.

That’s awesome man. I got about 250 lbs out of my hives this year.

That’s cool, I still give it to family and neighbors and that, but the general public pays.

I recorded a bass line and programmed some drums as a demo for the band, but I also put it out to my online music community on fediverse and a mutual added some lovely guitars to it and made it something very very different from what I’d originally envisioned.

I joined the local woodworking group. All of my tools are still buried under mountains of cardboard in the garage, so I don’t really have a space to work in yet.
They took over the city’s woodworking shop when they moved to a bigger location. Membership fees are low because they don’t pay any rent. Because it’s part of a senior’s program (minimum 55 yo), the location is donated. It’s huge and they got a big grant from the province that they spent on some beautiful new tools and dust collection.
It’s going to be a pleasure to go down there to do some work. It also means I don’t have to spend thousands on more stationary tools or clog up my garage.
Well worth the $105/year. Plus, all the wood shops and tool stores around town give a 10-20% discount to members!

Oh that’s marvelous.

My daughter’s marching band made State Saturday. Top 10 from semi state went on, out of 20. The regionals were top 10 from 11 at each location advance, so this was the only real cut.

The school has only made it twice before ever, and placed 9th and 10th. They missed it last year and the goal this year was just to make it, but I think they can do better than 9th.

We have a not insignificant number of kids who weren’t into it in the first place or who have burned out. It takes a real effort of will not to just watch the couple I know just wander around the field instead of enjoying the show.

My wife said, “Until we get a water heater, I need you to lick all the butter off of the knives and plates because it’s really hard to clean with cold water.”
Uh, okay. I’ll be the dog.

Good old Transvaal thunderstorm with lots of booming thunders.

Love it.

My free 3 months of Premier Silver status on United came through and I get a free checked bag and might have a shot at free first class upgrades.

Which on a domestic flight isn’t spectacular but a wide, cushy seat for the redeye flight home would be real nice.

I have a honey daddy. This arrived yesterday, but didn’t see it until this morning.

They’re two pounds each.

I’m recovering from yet another illness. No clue where this came from, but I think I’ll just blame the kids from now on since they get the most exposure to potentially sick individuals. I’m not handling these as well as I used to; I was so congested and the coughing gave me random muscle aches that seriously bugged me. Took painkillers last night and man, what a comfy night of sleep.

This is one of literally only three things I miss about living in Texas. The other two being no state income tax and Blue Bell ice cream.

A pretty sunset

While refilling the bird feeders after letting them sit empty for about 2-3 months, I hear a bird calling out every so often. I look up and it’s about 10 feet above me. I think it was sending a “the food is back!” signal.
