Aside from For All Mankind, is there any decent new scifi on?
Sonyâs act is exactly why I refuse to join any form of subscription service.
If you liked Fosterâs Home for Imaginary Friends, the new Ryan Reynolds movie IF has a similar concept: when kids create an imaginary friend, the IF becomes real, and someone needs to take care of them. The difference is that instead of everyone being able to see them as in FHFIF, it takes a while for a person to learn how to see them.
Sony, which I guess are the head honchos for Jeopardy!, decided they want just one host and it will be Ken Jennings. Bialik announced yesterday so long and thanks for all the fish.
Now I know why thereâs over a thousand episodes of the One Piece anime. They take what should have been in one episode and stretch it out across ten.
I have been quoting the extended edition of Monty Python and the Holy Grail and yelling âGet on with it!â at the TV.
âWeâve gotta fight and save ourselves.â
âNah, letâs just stand around and keep being awestruck and dumbfounded at how powerful and impressive all the pirates are. Letâs keep going on and on about it. Letâs keep having these freakouts that last three episodes while the heroes and villains talk at each other. Letâs just stand here and occupy space. Letâs just grow old, lamenting about how miserable our lot is and even though we know we have to do something, we canât move from this spot because weâre watching everyone else talk and be impressive and weâd miss hearing the villainâs evil laugh for the twentieth time if we actually did anything.â
I feel Iâm losing brain cells watching this show.
Season 2 of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will premiere on February 2, 2024. I need to find time to follow up on what I said Iâd cover about season 1 back in July.
One of the pretty cool things Disney did for this series is the novelization of the pilot episode âMoon Girl Landingâ. Itâs called âOne Girl Can Make a Differenceâ, which comes from the saying Lunellaâs mother often quotes to her.
The book is written from Lunellaâs point of view, so thereâs additional exposition to fill out things seen in the episode, and thereâs changes that would be consistent with a person recounting the story from their past, plus changes that deviate from the episode.
The best part is the audiobook version released last month. Diamond White voices Lunella in the series and she reads the audiobook in Lunellaâs voice, giving it the same inflections and cadence as the TV series. Itâs pretty cool.
The time approacheth for the annual viewing of The Hogfather.
December 21, 2023: âUpdate on Discovery Entitlements Affected Titlesâ
âDue to updated licensing arrangements, the Discovery content removal planned for December 31, 2023 is no longer occurring. We appreciate your ongoing support and feedback.â
As Louis Rossmann pointed out today, Discovery may have realized that taking away without reimbursement what is publicly termed as a purchase but buried in the EULA as a ârevocable licenseâ might drive customers away from their streaming service.
So now the imminent loss of the shows has been called off (for now). People should still look at ways to make a backup so it canât be taken away from them in the future.
Anyone know of a recent cartoon show that included dealing with PTSD in it? Moon Girl had a very traumatic experience in the season 2 premiere and sheâs definitely got it. Iâm curious to see how other cartoons may have worked that into their stories.
I just started watching The Wheel of Time on Amazon Prime, but it has been so long since I read they first 8 or 9 books that I just donât remember much. I remember getting to the point that I wished Rand would just go mad and destroy the world already by the time I stopped reading them, but not much else. I remember that the first 4 or so books were good, but went seriously downhill from there.
There was just so much goddam content that itâs hard to remember. The names are familiar when I encountered them, and I was suddenly coming up with details that I would have to relate to my wife so she could keep up. I read each one as they came out, so it was a while ago. If youâve ever read them, you know that there is a list of characters in each book that just gets progressively longer. There were hundreds by the end. None of them were names youâd normally encounter, so each had to stand out on its own. The world-building was inspirational.
Itâs been two months since I watched the One Piece anime series and I donât miss it. I really wanted to give it a chance. Iâm just not willing to keep watching a TV show that insults my intelligence.
If youâre a fan of Good Omens, season 3 is in production. But did you know that there was a very special delivery of season 2? Witness and behold:
And hereâs the two-hour Behind the Scenes video for the parody:
Watched the first two episodes of the FX miniseries of Shogun (you can also find it on Hulu). Very well done IMO. I look forward to the rest.
Iâve read the book a couple times.
Love all of his books. And from what little I have kearned he has a pretty good outsiderâs view of the cultures he writrs about and the general historical facts.
The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.
The first episode was a bit of a disappointment, but the second is fantastic. Watch.
The car??
All episodes of the new series Fallout will drop on my birthday. I know what Iâll be doing that day.
Yes, this looks awesome. We watched the new trailer last night and Mr. TM said âmaybe I should try the game before the series dropsâ.
Have him start at the beginning with the original Wasteland. (Still got mine for the Commodore 64. Still unplayed. )
