I’ve been wanting a mechanical keyboard for a while now, but couldn’t justify the price for a good one. My amazing co-workers (definitely no cow-orkers) gave me an Amazon virtual gift card for my milestone birthday a few weeks ago, which brought the price down to something close enough that I could justify it, so I put it toward this:
Just got it today, and I’m still getting used to it - it’s a whole different typing method to a “regular” keyboard - but I’m really liking it so far. It feels and sounds as close as I’m going to get to a typewriter without actually using a typewriter.
Yeah, that was actually in one of the reviews for this one. I usually keep myself on mute for most calls unless I actually have to say something, in which case I’m not (usually) typing anyway. I also kept my old keyboard, just in case I need to revert for work stuff.
I got mine when I was working from home three nights a week (as opposed to now, five days a week…) and after one night using it had places an order for the “silencer” rubber bands.
I don’t know if it bothered anyone else, but it bothered me when I was on a headset for 4-6 hours.
Installing the bands for mine meant carefully removing every key and placing the band on the post it sits on.
It’s also something that made me happy. Also, they are all very very old. But. When my grandma started going downhill, I told my dad that all I really wanted were her cookbooks and recipe cards because we spent so much time cooking and baking together and I still love cooking and it didn’t matter who got whatever else that’s all I wanted. Well, when my parents came.down a couple of weeks ago they brought boxes with them, one of which contained her recipes and cookbooks.
Fast forward to today, and I’m going through the box, pulling out all the cookbooks and recipes, and tucked in there is also her rolling pin.
Her recipes always have notes as to how they liked them, what to add or change… All in her and my grandpa’s handwriting. I’m going to find or make a nice storage box for on the counter that I can also use as a stand for whatever cookbook or card I’m using at the time. Always with me.
That is so amazing! We’ve made cookbooks out of printed out or hand written recipes that we made when they were home. I’m afraid the youngest’s is going to be bigger, so we may need to put together an addendum. I’d also like to update it and maybe do all printed versions with notes from their mother and I in them. But it’s neat to go through stuff like that. My grandmother is an excellent cook for company, she was in Bon Appetit once, and I’d like to get some of her books, but I think the Williams Sonoma series she tested and edited may be all I get.
This is a 20-watt bass amp head. It’s currently driving a 6.5" Altec Lansing sub from an old (2004) 2.1 system that died; I ripped out the electronics and wired in a 1/4" jack. It is the perfect unobtrusive living room amp for playing on the couch while watching Doctor Who. And it should travel nicely when I go to Europe next spring and can’t bring the full-sized things with me.
Not here yet, as I just ordered it yesterday, but soon I will have an ApexDesk Elite 71" motorized sit/stand desk to replace my current dinky desk I have my computer stuff on.
Unfortunately this means I have to completely rearrange half the furniture in my living room to accommodate the damn thing…
I broke down and ordered the Raspi 4 with the case that looks like an NES and allows an SSD to be loaded as if it was a cartridge. I’m weak, and it means I can have a mini-system for an upcoming trip it looks like I will be doing. Don’t mention the other two retropi systems behind me. The SSD means I can hold a lot more content, right?
(I can’t justify the SSD until next month, though.)
My new Kala Scout ukulele bass arrives on Friday. This will be the one that goes with me to Europe in the spring for 10 months or so. Although it sounds like we should have fairly liberal baggage limits, a full size bass guitar is just not going to happen…
(Also: I have a 20% off coupon code for Kala’s online store if anyone is so inclined.)
