Interesting tidbit I just saw dropped online: the church was one of the main sites for organizing a slave revolt, led by Denmark Vesey. The revolt was supposed to happen on June 16, 1892 - 193 years before the shooting, to the day.
I knew about the revolt, they ended up catching and hanging them all. Didnât catch the date.
I think you might have meant a different year though.
And there is your kickoff point for an alternate history book, successful slave revolt 60 years early.
Pardon me, it was 1822. Thatâs what I get for doing several things at the same time.
Holy crap! I saw a Groupon last week for Texas concealed carry classes - $41 or two for $79. Granted, the state still wants their fees for the license, and you have to go pay another small fee to a digital fingerprint processing facility. But it is all do-able for less way less than $400.
The digital fingerprint scanners donât cost that much. California fingerprints every person applying for a driverâs license or state-issued ID, and we donât pay anything extra. Every one of the workers has one of the scanners right there on the desk.
Maybe the fee is for the scanning liquid? Must be expensive, I canât find it anywhere on the web.
I donât remember getting fingerprinted for my driverâs license. Must have started after 1991.
Generally you get what you pay for; $100 a head for a Texas concealed carry class isnât terrible. The instructor makes a HUGE difference. They can run you through the required materials without even looking at you, or they can be engaging and actually teach.
Iâve got some recommendations for Houston area CHL instructorsâlook up Charles Cotton or Tom Estep. Tom was my instructor (back in, hell, 2005 or so) and he was great. Goes through the state laws very clearly, takes questions, gives tons of real-life examples, gets deep into the discussion of why things work the way they do.
Well, and since NYC is shall issue that $400 is thrown away unless you know someone.
Itâs 115 for an Indiana lifetime permit.
He just barely missed the no guns sign.
4 dead plus the shooter in Chattanooga.
We will never be able to predict all of these before they happen, any more than we can ever take away all of the guns from people who would do harm with them.
Granted, those guys wouldnât have been helped much if they had been armed. Dude rolls up empties a mag and then pulls away, not much time to do anything. I do wonder if a side effect of them being armed might have had them in condition yellow in the first place instead of white.
These guys, this time⌠being armed probably would not have helped.
Fort Hood? That time? If every NCO and officer was carrying a pistol? Yeah, things would have worked out very differently.
However⌠would the shooter have been as likely to fire on armed Marines?
I do wish we could stop the pretend theater trying to find his motive. Muslim man starts getting deeper into his religion then attacks American soldiers.
Iâm not saying itâs a 100% given, but letâs not pretend so much that we donât know what happened. This isnât like the dude who shot Gabby Giffords. If a Neo Nazi shot up a synagogue would we be wondering about why?
How about good job Chattanooga PD for just going after this dude and not hanging back waiting for SWAT to get dressed?
He shoots and he scores!
Turns out the second place where it so happened he didnât move on from there were people shooting back at him. Once again, it appears that even partially resisting stops the bad guy. And Iâd call a couple side arms vs. a rifle partially resisting.
Edit:
Another story, painting a similar picture, but not quite as hoorah as the one above. Some details I didnât know before in there too. At this point Iâm sure someone shooting back affected the event, but who knows how much.
What is this bullshit about âthe government wonât protect these guysâ?
And another theatre shooting. Two dead and seven injured, some critically.
This guy only waited 20 minutes.
Reed told police that he was holding his rifle outside the recruitment center when someone asked if he could take a look at it. Reed agreed, and while he was trying to clear the ammunition from the weapon, he accidentally fired one shot into the asphalt pavement
So dumb shit, what if the person asking to look at it was a terrorist just trying to disarm you? Or what if one walked up while you were coon fingering the fucking thing? Seriously, if you are going to pull the whole âdefend the defenselessâ thing, then fucking defend them.
In other news, I missed the part where unloading a weapon included you putting your booger hook on the go bang switch.
Iâm glad to see youâre okay. I saw the news about that big pile-up and was concerned.
Yeah, just read that one and replied.

This makes my head spin. You two spend so much time arguing, and here you are worried about each other.
