Death toll is up to 360 now.
Apparently Dear Leader’s minions have been appropriating donated PPE for themselves, leaving the doctors to cope with surgical masks (which does not do a proper job in blocking virus transmission), and the people’s starting to get a tad upset.
Adding to their woes are a new outbreak of avian flu as well. Not fun.
I’m wondering if this is China’s Chernobyl?
Apparently Common Sense is now racist.
In other news, India confirmed its 3rd case now.

Going to be interesting if India gets laid low and all those companies who does outsourcing cannot do their jobs…

It’s racist the same trying to add extra vetting to prevent Islamic Extremists from flying into the US is.
It doesn’t matter why you do something an entire section of the political fighting force is going to assume it’s racist.
Three in Toronto (where I work) now. There was a bit of a panic at first, as a lot of people remember the SARS epidemic 20-ish years ago, but life is pretty much going on as normal now.
Most of us suspect that we do have Corona in South Africa, despite the no-shows.
However, we cannot prove it definitely. So we wait and watch.
Statistically we should have got a case or two already.
It’s definitely in my area now.
Interesting article in my local rag this morning
The author is calling the coronavirus a misinfodemic
She’s not saying that the virus isn’t a problem, just that it’s not as big of a problem as it is being made out to be.
Man, the Chinese government sure seems to be panicking though.
I wonder if it is a biowarfare leak, but it’s not as deadly as they were claiming. So the informed class is in a tizzy, but the reality is the reports from the developers were inflated.
On the telegram channel (Wuhan virus updates) it is claimed that a lack of testing kits hamper efforts to get a proper count of infected people.
There was an article on Ars about testing, but I didn’t read it all. Something about it being a strain of a known virus, so 1) not new, and 2) looking for it’s RND (after converting to DNA) is easier because they know the structures of other strains.
My suspicious side has been strolling down @Woodman’s train of thought, too.
There’s rumours that some website (Tencent IIRC) put the real figures up, then removed these.
Said figures shows a much higher infection rate than what’s show on “official” channels.
Also there’s one or two incidents that I also find highly suspicious. Ivory Coast and Botswana got a case each, they have sent off samples to ZA for testing. Nothing further was heard from that, except these two got dropped from the list of infections.
Recently we got our first case, samples was sent in to our lab and it got cleared just like that.
I’m suspicious, but all we can do now is to wait and see what develops further.
Well, well, well…
Saw an article this morning that one source suspects pangolin meat as possible coronavirus source.
Somebody else asked “what if they got it via rhino horn”
Hopefully this will scare them off from exotic meat dishes.
Dr Li Wenliang is going to be an icon against the Chinese government it seems. I have posted the link of his death in the RIP thread.
It’s a little morbid, but we have added the map @Ook sent out to the rotating content on our Big TV.
