Well, I finished it! My sister made the mask, I knitted the chain mail.
The past couple of years, I have alternated between Perry the Platypus and Dr. Doofenshmirtz, but this year, I’m not ready with a costume yet. I might try a Milo Murphy or Ron Stoppable costume next year.
It looks like it’s sold out at this store, but if you do a search for “Parker the Platypus” and add a brown fedora, you get Perry the Platypus.
Hey! Isn’t that "My Axe!"
Nice work Nabiki!
I totally need to make this. I could wear it to all the Christmas craft shows that are coming up. I might have to throw some grey in there, though.
This is my company logo:
The only dress-up I did for Halloween this year was to put on my “What Would Phineas Do?” t-shirt and put a fedora on the pumpkin I painted a year or two ago that has Perry the Platypus’ face on it.
I got a few more compliments than last year on taking peanut allergies into consideration with the treats. Check the Teal Pumpkin Project website for more details. It doesn’t hurt that Perry’s body color is teal, so his pumpkin likeness serves double duty. The Tootsie Roll Company has assortment bags that are peanut, tree nut and gluten-free. Look for Tootsie Rolls, Charleston Chew (Vanilla), Dots and Junior Mints.
I mostly do this just to be a good neighbor and some of the kids remembered me from last year. So I’m thinking about getting an earlier start on decorating next year and assembling a Milo or Ron costume. I’ll pass on a few tips.
A parent told me a year or two ago that they appreciated I had gone for friendlier decorations. Mostly some inflatable ones like a pumpkin with Mickey Mouse’s face and a Snoopy with Woodstick. A different house had gone for scary decorations, and I think she said they had people jump out at the passers-by. It upset her son enough to make him just about give up for the night. Then they saw my house and took a chance things would be better.
When going shopping for decorations, stop by places like Dollar Tree and pick up some cheap candy bags. They don’t cost much and you can hand them out for the kids that are using plastic bags or a smaller container.
As a surprise this year, I wound up giving out a few bottles of water and two of sweet tea. I had them sitting by my door because I was going to put them in my car, but some of the teens that stopped by spotted them and really sounded like they could use them. I’ll keep a few available next year, as well as some dog biscuits in case the parents are walking their pooches as they accompany the kids.
Alright, the holiday is getting close again. Who’s dressing up? What are you going as? I’ll start!
The group from work has chosen Mortal Kombat as this year’s theme for Highball and the accompanying carousing. I will be going as Reptile. Currently compiling a list of ideas on how to make the costume. May have some parts already, but looks like it’s going to be a ground-up proposition. Bc I have so much free time I should just see my own costumes.
Anyone else planning ahead?
3 of us are going as theSpanish Inquisition.
We’re kind of trying to duck/minimize participation in a haunted hayride thing some of $Wife’s friends do. I’m not very good at acting scary, and we’re just busy this season. Last year we just took their long son on the ride, which was a fun way to enjoy it.
Well, I guess part of the fun for our group (besides most play on a rec vball team, we go out occasionally anyway, etc) is that Highball is going on downtown. Which is pretty fabulous in many many ways. We have alot of “nerdy” people in Columbus that already cosplay so their costumes are great. The gay population comes out in a force rivaled only by Pride Week and just goes apeshit crazy getting dressed up. And everyone is just super friendly and complementary to everyone. Last year our theme was Hocus Pocud and so many random people of all ages and types just walked up and said nice things. And then would go to the next group and say nice things. It’s as if for one night everyone decides to be the friendliest they can be. And even if you don’t dress up people will complement your clothes, or joke with you that your curmudgeon outfit was the best they’d seen, etc. (Actual overheard comment!). It’s hard to not want to go.
Cool. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.
I’m going as Rick Sanchez. Even if there are 50 other Ricks there it will make perfect sense.
I’m still not sure what to be this year. If no inspiration strikes me I may just recycle my goth chick costume from last year. That was fun.
Getting mouse ears, red cape and red shoes is easy enough, but I have no idea where to get the yellow long sleeve shirt and pants and red swimsuit to make a Mighty Mouse costume.
Hah, I bought a series of cosplay and prop making books from Humble Bundle a couple years ago, finally broke into them and OMG. 90% of it is so far above my head I can’t even start.
I’d love to do some of this but wow.
- Those Speedos don’t come in my size.
- You don’t want to see me in a Speedo.
I forgot that Mighty Mouse wears a belt, which over the years has been yellow, white or black, so I think what I could do is get red cargo pants and pin them up so they are close to the shape I need.

The littlest Enderman. He has a black outfit to go with it. You can’t see it in this photo, but the center of each eye pulses menacingly in purple.
The Mighty Mouse costume will have to wait until next year. Some expenses came up I wasn’t ready for and it looks like I’d have to spend about $200 to put it together.
