I’m back!

Last year was a living hell, so I turned off the television, radio, and internet and eventually moved out to the forest just before Hallowe’en.

Life is surprisingly good when your only worries are keeping the cats, chickens, and horses happy.

I can concur with that, living in the boondocks definitely is a better quality of life.

Plus your BP goes down and you have less stress.

It really does. I mean I’m only an hour away from Carlisle but by British standards that’s a three month trek across the Andes! The weather out west is wetter of course, to the point we’re going to have to technically suspend our veggie garden above the peat and put guttering in, but that’s a February Problem

Where we stay, the ground is not suitable for farming, so my wife made beds for the plants. We have put piping up to redirect graywater into the veggie beds, so it’s less of a schlepp to take out the bathwater.

Getting there slowly but surely.

One forumite’s in wet weather conditions, the other’s in dry (semi-desert) conditions. Going to be interesting.

I’ll choose the arid conditions above the wet conditions though.

At least it’s cool in the evenings, you can sleep nice and well, no more hot, sweaty summer nights.

My Black Walnuts make for nice loamy black earth, but it’s also toxic to most plants, so we have to do raised beds.
