Moonring (free on Steam)

All Moonring gamers… @sig

Do the -± symbol next to the object indicate that it is in use?

CRT effects, yay or nay?

No CRT effects :

CRT effects (for people who love the CRT feel and look of old games) :

I prefer CRT effects to be disabled.

Death screens with different messages…

I would say nay. Why make it harder to read if you don’t have to?

First dungeon completed. Found a stone, on my way back to town.

Nice game.

Apparently there’s a subreddit for it :

Reminds me strongly of The Valley, where you “zoom” in to a specific area (herbs to be found, prey to be killed etc) or even a temple/palace/whatever next to a lake.

Once finished, you zoom back out to the general world.

The Valley have a “safe path” that goes from one end of the valley to the other end, you will not find any monsters on the safe path, but if you go off the path, you are fair prey to allsorts of frolicsome beasties.

I’ll see if I can grab some screenshots.

Vounim’s Lair and the Temple of Y’Nagioth have more than one level upwards (or downwards). Makes for some grinding to get where you want to go.

For those of you who want to have a shufty at The Valley, here is a site with a small executable - no installer needed.

Just unzip it, find the executable, and run it.

And have fun.

The 48k Spectrum’s screen :

I did beat Moonring with only a little help on some of the quests. Some things that should have been pretty straightforward were difficult and tedious, but overall I enjoyed it immensely and will probably play it again some time.
