(I’ve had that happen before too - I went into a car dealership asking after a Mitsubishi Magna they had online, only to be told that it had been sold already but what about a Ford Falcon (1999 AU)? I felt like telling him I wouldn’t p!ss on an AU if it were on fire, but instead resolved to never deal with him again.)
And here we have the definitive description of a salesweasel: a person who hears “I wish to purchase a product that does X” and assumes you mean “I would like to hand you a large commission and not have anything worthwhile to show for it.”
From what I read, the new firmware didn’t completely fix the problem. But that was as of last March, things may have changed since. I’ll have to check it out.
Awesome! Another bonus of the DSLR is that as long as you stick with the brand, you can keep using the same lens with a new body if/when you decide to upgrade.
I’m still using the Canon G6 CoG advised me on something approaching a decade ago… Although much of the time I end up using cellphone cameras due to the convenience aspect. It’s my go-to “studio” camera, such as it is.

Until you jump from APS-C to full frame and all of your APS-C-only lenses have to be cast off.
Granted, most people won’t reach that point, but if you find yourself investing in a lot of EF-S or DX mount glass, you could be in for an expensive switch later.
I’m happy with the Nikon. I sat up until stupid-o’clock-in-the-morning the other day to snap the moonrise. Most of the first shots were utter crap, but I managed to get a couple of good ones.
This one is cropped down from the full 6000x4000 to 1024x768, according to the EXIF details, ISO 6400, 1/1000 second, F6.3.
There is a bit of noise / banding around the edge of the moon, but I can live with it for a “first time” shot.
Tomorrow I’m off to see what sort of sunset photos I can get. It’s also an excuse to take the bike out on mountain roads, but we’ll politely ignore that.
I can’t see myself buying that many lenses - about the only glass I need/want is a doubler (magnifier?) to take my current lens from 300mm to 450 or 600mm.
I’ve also been watching tutorial video “courses” from Lynda. The “Travelling Photographer” series are interesting. Mainly because I can say “I’ve been there… and there… and there…” :smile
As a semi-random aside, do we have any threads dedicated to posting photos that we’ve taken? I don’t remember seeing any.
