He’ll need two to open the box at least.
Just started thinking about everything else I need to buy in the near-to-midterm and managed to psyche myself out of it…for now. But it’s still in my cart. I might start staring at it again soon and I’ll have to fight it all over again.
You know…the longer I have that lens, the less happy I am with it. It’s far and away an improvement on the kit lens, of course, but it’s just so damn soft at f4 that I wind up doing just about everything at f8, and by the time you’re shooting at f8 everything’s dim unless you’re outside, so you gotta add the speedlight to brighten it up…
I rented the 24-70 for CES at borrowlenses, and it was like a whole new world. It’s still a little soft wide open, but at f4 it sharped up good and by f5.6 is was amazing. I thought I’d be crippled by the lack of IS, but being able to shoot 1-2 lower more than made up for it.
On the other hand, it took a couple of years for me to get to that stage with the lens—I was in love with it for a long time.

I’m pretty sure it won’t be in the cards for me. Corporate earnings came out on Friday and long story short, any bonus I might get will be at best 25% of what I’m used to.
