Observations **

The login functionality is working better now. (For a sample size of one login)

I didn’t have any problem logging in, but I still have to do the down arrow thing to get the Bigdinosaur discussion link.

I’m seeing the same still myself.

The top links appear to be working properly now.

Edit: Except for this thread. Only this thread. How weird.

Hmm… Looks like the higher user levels have been enabled. Is there anything saying what it takes to get to the various levels? Aside from moderator or admin intervention, that is?

Okay, not sure if it’s already been figured out or not (if so, ignore the rest!), but I’ve noticed that if you scroll up past the first post, it reverts back to Big Dinosaur instead of the topic title. Scroll lower than the first post, and it goes to the topic title. Clicking it will bring you to the first post. Clicking the Dinosaur icon gets you back to the Latest.

Padrino speaks truth. That confounded me at first, till I figured it out.

A couple observations of things I LIKE: I was getting annoyed by the ā€œtrackingā€ option at the bottom of the threads, and then thought it would be nice if I could toggle the email notifications and ask you to find a way to open links in a new tab/window – and then I FOUND those options in the Edit Profile screen! Yay! That’s neat.

And I totally love the addition of a ā€œlikeā€ button, because I like to agree or give a virtual ā€œthumbs upā€ without having to say so.

Right—the dino head should always take out out to the ā€œLatestā€ view. More correctly, it links back to the site’s bare URL, which right now defaults to the latest view. The dino is always the way out!

I like the feature that shows how many times a link in a post has been followed.

A few other neat things. You can select text in a message elsewhere and click the ā€œquote textā€ button that pops up to create a reply containing that quoted text. It even works if you’re already in the middle of typing a reply! In fact, I’m about to use that functionality right now.

Even though a quote may only contain a snippet of a previous message, like this—

—you can still click the downward-facing caret at the upper-right of the quote to expand the quote so that it shows the whole original message. You can also click the up arrow in the quote box to be transported back to the quote’s source.

Also, when you click the ā€œReplyā€ button at the bottom of a post, your reply gains an ā€œIn reply toā€ badge. Clicking that badge expands a little ā€œdrawerā€ that contains the message you’re replying to and any previous replies. It’s sort of a miniature threaded discussion-in-a-box so you can see replies in context.

Try it on this message—I replied to a post way up-thread.

Oh man!! The NaNoWriMo forums could really use this format!!

I’ve noticed that threads are still tracking, even though I’m pretty sure I’ve turned that feature off. Maybe I’m missing something? Hafta log out and back in again?

Threads that were already being followed aren’t affected by the global setting—only new ones. You might need to go hit 'em and manually set them to ā€œRegularā€ or ā€œMutedā€ at the bottom.

@Lee_Ars: Did you change the default font? It used to be a rather pleasing (to my eyes) sans-serif font, and now for some reason it’s coming up as what I believe is Times New Roman or some other serifed font.

No, the typeface is and has always been Adelle. Haven’t changed it. Though the latest update might have broken something (this is rapidly becoming a stock phrase!).

Ok, that font you linked is what used to be here. Not exactly sans-serif, but much nicer to look at than Times.

Here’s an example of what I see:

Yay, updates that break things!

Edit: Also, $65 for a font? $599 for the entire font variant pack? Are these people high?

Oops. Okay, yeah, I broke the typeface. I commented out the wrong thing in the stylesheeet.

Should be fixed now!

…and all is well in this small world again.

I’ve never seen such confidence that their font was better than any other.

Honestly, one of my favorite sites to go to for fonts was DaFont.com as they had many, many fonts, and most of them were free or free-if-not-for-commercial-use.

Yeah, I love DaFont.com. I’ve pulled a few fonts off there for my button-making.
