Well, I remember when they decided there would be no cost of living adjustment to social security payments because the cost of living index hadn’t changed enough. He pointed out that the cost of living index didn’t account for the rise in the cost of medications, and that people on social security had disproportionate medical care costs, which also was not covered by the cost of living index.
Yeah, nutty stuff.
Or when he said cervical cancer might be caused by lack of orgasms. Or that all women had rape fantasies of being raped by three men, while men fantasize about tying up their spouse.

People writing articles trying to boost him are comparing him to Carter and Dukakis. Thanks but no thanks.
He seems to think that actual Marxist Socialism hasn’t been given a fair shake. Despite the millions that it killed.
It took him until this year to realize that the jobs market is worse than the unemployment rate shows.
He seems to honestly think that a rising tide doesn’t raise all boats. Despite the fact that poor people in America have disposable income, income for flat screen TVs, computers, cable, and God knows what else. A poor family in 1970 was so much worse off than one in 2015. Hell, they didn’t have air conditioning then.
We must also bring about pay equity. There is no rational reason that women should be earning 78 cents on the dollar compared with men who perform the same work.

Furthermore, we have to expand overtime protections for millions of workers. It is absurd that “supervisors” who earn $25,000 a year are currently forced to work 50 or 60 hours a week with no overtime pay. Raising the income threshold to at least $56,680 from the absurdly low level of $23,660 a year for overtime will mean increased income for many millions of salaried workers.
First of all, “forced”? It’s not like when you take the job you don’t know what it is. This is not slave labor. And frankly making sure your minimum wage staff doesn’t steal anything and unlocking the doors in the morning isn’t exactly a 100k a year job.
It also means that millions of salaried workers will have to start clocking in and out on a time clock so their employer doesn’t break federal law. Which means they’ll now get gigged for coming in 5 minutes late, or taking a lunch three minutes too long, and then sent home right at 40 hours, and instead of being able to negotiate for a raise because they got the job done, they’ll be reprimanded for not accomplishing tasks in the time allotted. Half the point of being salaried as an advantage is not being a slave to the clock. Thanks for wanting to take that away schlomo.

And after 40 years in politics, sees himself as one of the people. Still thinks Occupy Wall Street was a grass roots, popular campaign.

And none of it matters, because by the time my state votes it will be just to confirm whoever hasn’t stopped running yet. I have never had a valid alternate to vote for for president in the primary, neither has any Democrat in Indiana.
So my choice will be between some crazy Democrat, and some insane Republican. And unless whoever it is is Huckabee, Trump, or Santorum I’m voting for the R. The only Democrat I’d vote for would be Bayh.

Sorry, just getting tired of hearing how Bernie Sanders is the second coming of Jesus from a couple friends of mine. Just because someone agrees with you on what the problems are doesn’t mean you agree on the solutions. I think people need more opportunity and money, that doesn’t mean that I think you should take it from rich people and hand it to them. Transfer payments don’t work. But it’s an argument that’s been going for decades, Europe is showing us what happens, but people still don’t see it.
While I’m not a Trump fan either, bucking the politically correct BS-ness is refreshing, and apparently a lot more popular than anyone expected. (BS-ness isn’r really a word… not towing the PC line?)

People seem to forget that the Greek debt crisis – which is becoming a European and even possibly a world economic crisis – grew out of a deal with Goldman Sachs, engineered by Goldman’s Lloyd Blankfein. Several years ago, Blankfein and his Goldman team helped Greece hide the true extent of its debt – and in the process almost doubled it. When the first debt deal was struck in 2001, Greece owed about 600 million euros ($793 million) more than the 2.8 billion euros it had borrowed. Goldman then cooked up an off-the-books derivative for Greece that disguised the shortfall but increased the government’s losses to 5.1 billion euros. In 2005, the deal was restructured and the 5.1 billion euro debt was locked in. After that, Goldman and the rest of Wall Street pulled the global economy to its knees – whacking Greece even harder.
Undoubtedly, Greece suffers from years of corruption and tax avoidance by its wealthy. But Goldman Sachs isn’t exactly innocent. It padded its profits by catastrophically leveraging up the global economy with secret, off-balance-sheet debt deals. Did any of its executives ever go to jail? Of course not. They all got fat bonuses and promotions. Blankfein, now CEO, raked in $24 million in 2014 alone. Meanwhile, the people of Greece struggle to buy medicine and food.

And a large portion of the population taking early retirement options that are the best in Europe. While another entire section of the population didn’t work in the first place and was pulling in benefits the whole time.
What costs more. 50 billionaires not paying 10% of their taxes, or 20 million people collecting unearned benefits for a year?
Blaming the bankers and people who give the loans assumes the people signing the deals are children who don’t know better. If Sachs did that then they did it with Greece’s permission if not blessing.
There may have been people pulling shady deals, but this blame the rich and eat them bullshit just doesn’t fly. Gosh, Sachs made 100 million, or whatever, on a 5.1 billion debt restructuring, here’s an idea, don’t go 3.4 billion in debt in the first place. Not sure how 3.4 to 5.1 is almost doubling either.
Because they keep voting for bread and circuses, and they are running out of other people’s money. If you spend all your money on hookers and blow I’m not going to give two fucks about you not being able to afford your meds.
Take all the money from all the rich people and Greece is still screwed.

Yup, that’s one of the main reasons Mayor McCracky (aka Rob Ford) got in in Toronto four or five years ago. His campaign slogan was “Stop the Gravy Train!” And, to be fair, his first year in office he did do some good things. Doesn’t outbalance the rest of his time in office, though…

The main purpose of people like Trump is to go out, say something totally outrageous, take the hit, swing back a few times, and make it reasonable for someone like Cruz to say something like “I think we need to examine sanctuary cities and deportation standards.”
Where if you just start with something reasonable you are the one everyone is pissed at and is pissing on. When in all actuality, saying that some people coming from Mexico are criminals is just unvarnished truth. And really, all of them are criminals, since entering a country illegally is, um… illegal. But until someone like Trump says the outrageous even the mundane was untouchable.

You know what some other countries do about invaders?
Intended to be humorous, of course, but not untrue. I know a few folks that have been to eastern Europe, Israel, and the middle east, and border protection in some of those places is no joke.

Yup. Granted it has been several years since I was down in the valley, but if you didn’t have anything to declare, it was easier to cross the border coming back to the US than going into Mexico. This was on foot at a different locations from Del Rio to Brownsville, but it was the same when I was a kid, when I was in college, and a few years ago.
