For crying out loud. She’s black, she died in a jail cell, and now all of a sudden she’s a civil rights activist. And after she physically assaults a police officer, it’s “impossible” that she committed suicide. Notice the family didn’t say boo about it being “impossible” that she would assault a police officer.
The video shows nothing of interest. It shows her on the ground being restrained. And everybody already knew that, because she was arrested following the assault on a police officer!

I think your strongest point – one I had vaguely formed myself – is the one about limited access to goods and services. What if my faith-based local hospital decides my sinful carcase isn’t worth as much as that of a clean-living believer?
We have one of our two public hospitals refusing to provide services that conflict with Catholic values ™. Ah, the joys of public-private partnerships. The sole pharmacy in a (not so) nearby country town refuses to stock contraceptives.
Since my Catholic counterparts love selectively quoting Scripture, how about this one: “Render unto Caesar that which belongs to Caesar.”
You know, in the case of Catholic Hospitals, and nursing homes, etc… I find the strongest cases in my mind both for and against religious exemptions. And let’s assume that everyone working at a Catholic hospital is Catholic, they aren’t but they would still be if they could get away with it (A whole other argument), as a Catholic doctor justfying a tubal ligation is difficult, how could I force a elective abortion into my head?
OTOH, it’s a hospital, and if its the only one then if you need something they won’t do you’re fucked. I will say that from what I’ve been told it’s this sort of situation that caused my birth to be inevitable, the prospect of a trip to Chicago at 15 to take care of the problem was too much to deal with, so I’m mixed here too.

There is a growing crop of doctors who won’t do a circumcision, otherwise known as male genital mutilation to some. Can’t wait for that one to hit the courts. If your religious beliefs allow you to refuse service, can my pseudo scientific religion based primitive cleanliness regime force you to provide it? If not, why not?
I still fall on the line that less damage is done to society when less government power is used to compel action. Except when government is the problem, Selma, Rosa Parks, etc…

Personally, I am outraged by the outrage.
Supposedly the suicide is “impossible”. Here’s a thought: woman gets job, woman gets arrested for assault of a police officer, woman goes to jail two days before supposed to start at new job, woman spends weekend in jail…
If she was even a little prone to melodrama, she spent the entire weekend in “omg my life is over” and then decided to kill herself.
There is a comment that if her friends and family were worth anything they would have bailed her out right away instead of waiting until Monday. While I’m not sure that’s a legit statement, it could be something she was thinking every two seconds.
I would think that would definitely contribute to the mindset I mentioned.
Hadn’t she recently moved to Chicago, then decided to move back to Texas? If her family thought she was flaky, maybe they were worried about her taking off back to Chicago and not coming back. I could see that as a valid concern. But them turning around and looking for an authority figure to blame, and possibly also looking for some sort of payday, is where my sympathy for them wanes.

But yeah, I could see them being concerned about her jumping bail.
Of course, if it was my daughter I’d be jumping up and down and demanding answers. And I could see leaving her in jail to settle down too.
Some of the comments also mention that that particular facility is a bit rough. If she was all talk and no game she could have been utterly terrified by the environment too.

And a nice way to be able to sidestep talking about the issues he’s talking about and just talk about the noise and fury. Anyone who doesn’t think having millions of illegal immigrants in the country is a problem is an idiot.
They have to realize that 90% of the reason he’s polling well is because he’s a furious sideshow punching out at the media among others. It is starting to seem like the Republican field has finally learned that being nice to reporters and the press is stupid.
Carly Fiorina, while she didn’t pwn Katie Couric, she certainly didn’t just sit there and let her ask the “When did you stop beating your husband?” questions republicans normally get.
At this point I think most of the Republican field has boxed with the news. They tried to get Paul, and he dismissed the question so they called it sexist, but he got a boost out of it too. Anyone watching these doesn’t want to see a Republican in a presidential debate take a hit like Romney did from Candy Crowley and just duck his head and smile. They want someone who would have asked her what the hell she was doing helping someone answer their question, or just respond with a “Citation Please”.
I agree we have an immigration problem. That doesn’t excuse Trump spewing all the hate.
And I would trust him or Fiorina to run a lemonade stand, much less the White House.

Seems pretty accurate to me. Some men are rapists, some women are prostitutes, some clergy are pedophiles, some children are noble and selfless.
Edited: Don’t get me wrong, I think Trump is a pompous blowhard. He has way too inflated of an ego, and appears to have made an awful lot of money through playing the system more than playing the market. And since the original comments he appears to be going farther and farther off the reservation.

At least they’ve both been in charge of something. Donald has been over leveraging himself for decades, he could be the perfect president to be over the US bankruptcy. And Carly talks a great game, it’s way to early to dig into the details, I’m looking for fight in my candidate.
But I do prefer a Governor for President. Bill Clinton at least knew you had to give some to get some, and so did George Bush. Even if I didn’t agree with what was being given and taken.
O’Malley and Sanders managed to stick their white privilege up their own noses over the weekend too. We keep talking politics and campaigns getting dirtier every year, but Trump seems to want it to get even worse. In the middle of mud-slinging, he starts spewing toxic waste.
