I am not that impressed with in-n-out. Too greasy, and I don’t confuse “messy” and “tastes good”
I had Five Guys a couple weeks ago for the first time. I was not impressed. Definitely not impressed for the price, but even for 1/3 less I’d be disappointed.
Finally! Someone who agrees with me that they are greasy! Don’t get me wrong, I am well aware that fat content is very important to taste, especially in burgers. But I shouldn’t have to shower afterward. It’s just too much.
My favorite burgers are from a local place where I grew up. And they still fry their fries in lard, and do the bag fries. Add in twenty different flavors of milkshakes and it’s heaven on earth…
Ohh, we have one of those, but it’s always so busy. And the guy running it is getting old and has no continuation plan. He dies it goes away, which sucks.
I’ve seen a few of these places, most look like they used be drive-ins. But yes, they often have bettr food (and better selections, unless you want a salad) than the chains.
My favorite is still the blueberry cheesecake shake at a place in Sparks Nevada.
There are no places down here where I can get White Castle-style tiny burgers. There used to be a Krystal Burger up on the north side of Houston about an hour’s drive away, but it closed for some mad reason.
My first trip to an actual White Castle was a disappointment. It was in St. Louis, and I was there for a work trip; I specifically set aside time to go have lunch at the nearest White Castle and I was super-excited to finally get to try the food.
It was…meh. I left feeling pretty let down (and also pretty gross due to having just eaten like 12 white castle burgers).
Several grocery chains carry either the “real” White Castle burgers in the freezer section or similar tiny-burgers under some other brand name.
After eating both I do not understand either In-N-Out or Whataburger. Both seem to be as bad/good as Sonic burgers. Personally I like Braum’s burgers, especially the bbq bacon burger. 5 Guys is good but pricey.
To each their own, I guess.
Whataburger doesn’t do it for me, either, but several guys I know and work with love it. I think that because they grew up on it, the familiarity or nostalgia adds something. I like Braum’s, but don’t know of any this far south. I’ve only been to 5 Guys once and didn’t think it was as good as SmashBurger.
I miss Arctic Circle, but I’m not sure they even exist anymore.
i like the pies too.
