RIP Thread

I’m finding even with the competent ones that stepping up to take the hit is an unknown skill.

Bob Hoskins passed away. I loved Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Just read that myself, @Nabiki, he was quite the character. I’ll miss him.

Mario from Supermario Bros the movie is gone?

Damn. That’s a shame.

Oddly enough, I watched a movie the other day with Bob in it.

About a week after I made that post above, our dog, June, had a tumor removed from her mouth. It turned out to be an aggressive form of cancer and the vet said she would only have months left. She had been doing well but started going downhill rapidly the past few days. Yesterday my wife and I could no longer bear to see her suffering so we took that final trip to the vet with the kids. Our family will always remember the joy you brought us the past three and a half years.

I’m so sorry for your loss. No matter how much we feel we are prepared, we never are. May the memories keep her alive in your hearts.

Man I hate it when you have to put a dog down. Keep the faith. And rescue another dog.

Thanks, she is alive in our hearts. The decision to end her suffering was easier to make then when to actually make the call. She had actually improved throughout the day before the appointment, but we would have just delayed the inevitable and increased her suffering.

I hated doing it but it had to be done. I am relieved that she is no longer suffering but it never gets any easier. This is the 3rd dog I’ve had put down (7 critters altogether if you include cats). This is the second time the kids have been there at the end.

The previous time I swore it would be the last dog we would have. That lasted a year so I’m sure we will get another dog and it will be a rescue. Thanks to the connections to various Siberian Husky groups my wife has made on Facebook, we already have options waiting for us if we want.

I’m so sorry for your loss. You made a hard decision, with the quality of June’s life in mind.

I hope I never reach that point. I’ve had to make some hard decisions, including financial based ones about keeping, or treating animals, but I keep getting new ones. I think it’s because they make me feel better. And I know that they were better off with me than the pound.

I reached that point when I saw how devastated everyone was the last time around, but it only lasted a year or so and we had another dog. Then again, it was a period where I had to put down 2 cats and 2 dogs over a period of 4 years and all of them we had since they were kittens or puppies. Right now we still have a rabbit and a kitten. I’m pretty sure we’ll have another dog before this year is over.

Thanks, Nabaki.

Much Sympathy for you Road Rash. An aside, I love how many of you all (us) are pet lovers and the longest threads on this message chain are in support of those who lose a fuzzy/feathered/scaled/etc. family member.

Sorry for your loss, @Road_Rash. I’ve had my two since they were newborn pups, and they’re 13 & 14 years old now, so I know it is coming, but still can’t imagine how hard that decision is to make.

Thanks again to everyone for the kind words.

I normally wouldn’t adopt so soon after the loss of one of my pets but an opportunity to rescue a 7 month old husky puppy has presented itself to our family. The women who rescued him from a clueless overwhelmed owner thought my family would be the ideal adoptive family to give this puppy the attention and care he needs. My wife met Rudy this morning and the rest of us will meet him on Saturday. If everything goes well and everybody is on board with the idea we bring him home then.

I’m not much of a “pet person”, but that’s one great looking Husky. I hope it all works out for you.

Yeah, this sums that one up best…

Bummer. I enjoyed his work since first encountering it in early issues of Heavy Metal, anxiously anticipated the first Alien film largely because of his involvement, and applauded the additional exposure and acclaim he received as a result of that project.
