It’s nice to have clean air to breathe again.
I will always agree to that
Welp, here we go again…
There’s another one ever closer to where I work.
Ouch. Not nice. Been there as well, but I can imagine what it must be like…
Strongs!
Edit - we also had an uncontrolled veld fire, but luckily for us we had a firebreak of sorts around our house, and the wind was not blowing.
The one @Nabiki mentions is also uncontrolled, but on a larger scale and (I assume) a strong wind fanning it. Absolutely not fun, the heat generated is something straight from Hell.
So I guess now the local power company is saying the most recent fires might have been their fault?
Apparently so.
I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say it’s their fault. A contributing factor, maybe, but there are a whole lot of other factors as well.
True, but PG&E has been neglecting maintenance, so they are at least partly at fault. They’ve been doing power outages to try to prevent the fires, so I got a couple of days off of work two weeks ago, and a friend of mine was without power for two days. Luckily, I’m in an area that is not expected to lose power.
That is just horrible
No doubt to maximize payouts to shareholders.
Going to be ironic that you got $shares in said company, but your house got burnt down due to no maintenance on said company’s part.
I am a minor share holder (I have a whole 100 shares), but you know, I would be happy to have gotten less dividends in exchange for better maintenance.
I know the feeling. I have literally dozens of shares in several telcos that were a gift from my grandmother that worked at Ma Bell… and spend so much of my career yelling at telcos. Sometimes the same ones!
Crap. Evacuation orders for towns about 30 miles north of me. Go bag packed, cat carriers ready to stuff cats into.
Strongs! Will think of you!
Evacuation areas have been expanded. 87,000 people are being or have already evacuated. Evacuation warning areas are still about 20 miles from me, but getting closer. I’ve started packing the car.
Hate to sound like an idiot, but do you know where you will be evacuating to?
Not an idiot. I’m trying to figure that out. I think I’ll head up to my friend’s place up in Oregon.
When the fires got close in 2017, we planned to go to the old roommate’s sister’s place, but I really don’t want to go there now.
Edit: The fire is up to almost 26.000 acres. 87,000 people have been ordered to evacuate. Right now it’s 11% contained, they don’t expect to be able to contain it until Nov. 7.
I have a place to go. My friend just called back and told me to come any time.
Oh wow. That is seriously bad.
I’m glad to hear that you have a place to go to.
All the firefighters can do now is to try and contain the fire or guide it as best they can do. It is not a fun work, and is very dangerous.
Do keep us updated!
