Things you wish the other driver could hear, v3.0

This was at about 7:15 AM, and the other two lanes were going about 60. We ended up passing her on the right. So, not only was she in the carpool lane without a passenger, she was going slower than the rest of traffic!

Should be a capital offense.
Was she also texting or just applying makeup?

No worries, I was just playing

No, just staring straight ahead. I don’t think she saw anything that wasn’t directly in front of her.

Okay, so the semi made a lane change in front of you without seeing you were there, without using its turn signals and didn’t have enough clearance until you put on your brakes. You got upset, sped around it and dove back in front of it to cut it off, the flipped the bird at the semi driver several times. Feel better now?

How would you feel if a vehicle that weighs over eight times as much as yours couldn’t put on its brakes in time? Something along the lines of “oh, so that’s what it feels like to cause a multi-car collision during rush hour traffic on a dark and rainy night”? Or would it be “it was so totally worth it having my pickup totaled so I could get back at that guy”? Or would it be “why am I going sideways down the freeway and about to hit the car in front of me”?

Oh, wait. Sorry, I forgot. You weren’t thinking.

And yes, I would have pulled over and told the State Patrolman what both you and the semi driver did. I slowed down a little bit because I had a hunch you’d change lanes in front of me to do that.

This is for the city traffic planning division: Who thought it was a good idea to make an HOV lane in the middle of the city that is less than half a block long, and half of it is on one side of the intersection and half on the other side? I didn’t see any bus stops in this area, so by the time someone that qualifies to drive in that lane gets into it, they have to get right back out.

Bus Lane Times Of Operation: 0700-1900 Every Day.

This sir, is why the bus driver almost crushed your BMW. It didn’t expect you to cut in front of it and use the bus lane at 1430.

I’m using this part of the lane right now. please don’t try to merge into it.

I know right on red isn’t mandatory. But I’m sure the vehicles trapped behind you for those two minutes wish you’d have at least considered it when you had the chance.

If you’re coming up on an intersection that has more than one lane in your direction and you know that a lot of people make a turn at that point, get out of that lane if you’re not making the same turn. Then they can make their turn while you wait for the light to turn green from the other lane.

This post is written entirely from the perspective of a man who I watched total his car today on the way home from Deadpool (which was a surprisingly good film to watch).

He drove straight into the back of a parked tipper truck which, judging by how little it moved, was entirely full of something heavy. Fortunately he’d slowed down by the point he hit the lorry but still, that’s one princess who’s getting a tow to the scrap heap. Part of me hopes the driver was alright and part of me hopes he’s learned his lesson… does that make me a bad person?

CaffeinatedNoms, I’d say it depends on what your attitude is regarding that lesson: vindictive and “serves him right” versus “maybe he actually will learn something”. In my case, I’m going to add a little bit of snark to this and lean towards the first slightly with this:

            I saw the sign
And I'm ignoring it in my mind
I am happy living without you
            I'll just take the bus

No, it makes you a reasonable one, IMO.

All those biggencar roadhoggen drivers should be forced to downgrade to a Hyundai i10 for two months or so.

At their expense.

So that they can feel what it feels like when some biggencar start to sniff your a$$ like an aroused canine.

Couldn’t agree more. I think there should be a mandatory day, perhaps bi-annually, where the owners of vehicles with engines larger than 2.0L capacity should be forced to spend a day driving one of these on the open highway:

That’s the Peel P50. It has a 50cc engine (0.05L) and three wheels. It’s fully street legal even under modern laws, but is prohibited from Motorways for obvious reasons…

LMAO!! 50cc?

Beautiful! I so want one of these, to save on fuel costs.

Aren’t they legally “motorcycles” in some jurisdictions?

Besides their occasional appearance on Top Gear (Real Version) I think a History channel show called American Pickers used one of these or something similar as a joke ‘company car’ for the staff of the business featured in the show. I think they may have used one where the entire front windshield swung away for access.

I think a motorcycle has to be at least 250cc to be freeway legal.

Wait, does that mean one of these could be a DUI special?

Yeah in the UK they count as motorcycles (as do all three wheeled vehicles). You can technically drive the P50 on a provisional (learner) motorbike license unescorted since they’re under the 125cc engine limit for new drivers. As an aside, whilst learning to drive a vehicle you must always have a driving instructor, or any qualified driver with no demerits over three years, present with you - unless it’s a junior bike, or an emergency. So that makes the P50 qualify as a junior bike, which is just funny.

Just like 125cc bikes (and leaner drivers in general), the P50 is prohibited from National Class Dual Carriageways (two or more lanes in each direction with mandatory min 30 max 70 limits) and Motorways (mandatory min 30 max 70 limits) for pretty obvious reasons.
