TV show reviews

That was the March 11, 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, so it’s been 12 years for that. The Great Tokyo Earthquake was different and I’ll have an update on that later.

Finished Shrinking Season 1 while on vacation. Pretty solid. Harrison Ford is terrific. Ted McKinley pops in now and then to be over-the-top ridiculous. But I think the best performances were from the actors I didn’t know previously: Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, and Lukita Maxwell. Jason Segel & Christa Miller’s characters seemed like a caricature, but I’ve also not been through the experience any of the characters have been through which serves as the “trigger” for much of the season, so :person_shrugging:

This is the show that distracted Bill Lawrence from S3 of Ted Lasso (which some fans were upset about) but I was happy with how Ted Lasso wrapped up and I’m hoping for S2 of this one.

Only Murders in the Building is only 30 minutes per show, but it’s so densely written that it seems like an hour. Steve Martin is an all-time favourite of mine. Martin Short is amazingly over-the-top and absolutely perfect. Selena Gomez is the perfect foil for them. It’s really quite odd, but it works so well. We love it.

We watched 3/8 episodes of a series called Deadloch last night. It’s a 60 minute grizzled veteran antagonistic buddy cop series, but in Tasmania and the main characters are mostly women.
I wanted to watch it because it sounded like it really could go somewhere. I had to force myself to finish the first 2 because it was just making me angry. I could kind of see what was going to happen, but I see a lot of flaws in the character design of one of the characters. She is supposed to be grating, but this is on a whole other level. It goes beyond unrealistic.
Anyway, we’ll finish out the rest of the first season and see if a second one comes out.
Amazon Prime, if that matters to anyone.

If you’ve been watching The Boys on Amazon, Vought International has a YouTube channel with promotional videos, music videos, PSAs, ads, etc. They’ve been averaging about one video a month for the past two years, but released five in the past two weeks.

This looks like good supplemental information to the show and might be available for longer because it’ on YouTube instead of a dedicated website that a company could decide isn’t worth spending the money on any more to keep it online.

Related to this, the Internet Archive is using Ruffle to play Flash-based content on older websites it saved.

The increase in releases could be tied to the new affiliated show, Gen-V, which is airing now on Amazon. It’s totally awesome, by the way, and just as bloody and swear-y as The Boys.

Fine. I’ll have a look, then.

I love Gen V. Jordan is my favorite.

I’ve been meaning to give it a try, but still not sure I want to invest in a teen superhero drama. I’ve been burned before.
Right now we seem hooked on one-season-wonders.
We finished The Good Guys and just started Battle Creek. Entertaining, but they were never going to last.

It’s already been renewed for another season and after that finale I need season 4 of The Boys right meow.

For All Mankind is back, baby!

Yay! I’ve been anxiously awaiting this.

My wife and I just binged the first season of The Morning Show with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Holy crap! That’s some powerful stuff. I’m absolutely in love with Billy Crudup’s character. His delivery just blows me away every time he’s on screen.
