What Made You Happy Today?

Beginning of this week I heard a grinding noise coming from my left front brakes.

Bought new brakepads on Monday afternoon.

Grinding noise was intermittent.

Installed the new pads today and found that the left outer pad was wafer thin, and was scraping a bit against the stator closer to the axle.

No damages, stators still good, new brake pads in and I have done a bit of driving around to start the brake pad embedding process.

I found a CD of anime videos, and on there is a video that I’ve been trying to find for years. It’s done to Gordon Lightfoot’s Pony Man with images from Tonari Totoro.

Yesterday was a very stressful day.

$wife got stung by a cape thicktail scorpion on her pinky.

Said scorpion was inside an oven mitt she tried to put on.

She said her hand and arm was burning like hell.

Today the pain is gone.

We all are relieved it was not venomous.

Think we’re going to kip earlier tonight.

Enjoyed work today.

Managed to get SCP workening in powershell.

Now I can massage the output to produce both an html and a csv file.

The csv file will be imported into a database for us to run through a program and get visual warnings of issues that may affect our SLA and other critical stuff.

Html will be just for show until the DB part is workening.

I repaired the radiator in my old house, ready to rent out now. I also repaired a set of yellow flashing lights; my friend’s funeral will include a motorbike procession and legally they need someone with yellow lights at the head and tail.

Well, mostly repaired. For whatever reason H1 halogen bulbs are like hens’ teeth!

On a ball with powershell scripting!

There is one particular powershell script I want to convert so it will do output to CSV as well, and that is an active directory health check.

That one is quite a bit com-pli-ce-rated as it outputs currently to html, so it will take a while for me to parse it. But it can be done.

Had a client call and cuss out the staff and then the regional director because we screwed up his dog and didn’t fix it and didn’t know what we were doing. Director hung up after the third time being cussed at, then emailed him to let him know that the hospital owner would call him. He then emailed back that we robbed him and he is a young man who just bought a house and we are stupid asf and he has contacted his legal representative and he has his documents don’t worry hoe.

He was fired. :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I don’t know why this amused me so much, maybe because it’s almost beat for beat a sketch from Black Books; Bernard is asked by his accountant to explain his revenue receipts, and they confirm that the small stacks of coffee-stained post-its are organised thus: “So it goes this week, very recent, all other times.”

I recently ordered some prints of my photos for the walls. The prints are really big - two at 100x75cm (40x30in) and one at 50x150cm (20x60in). I was pretty nervous because they weren’t cheap.

They arrived today and I am absolutely rapt. They are actually better than I hoped they would be.
One of them is just stunning, and the family reckon I could easily sell it.
The other two are really really good.

We’re at that awkward part of the year where when it’s clear enough to see the stars it’s too cold to be out, but the only times it’s warm then the clouds flock in.

Hope you managed to get in some good stargazing!

Cold nights are best as the air is usually still, with less turbulence to disturb your seeing.

I chose 3 targets and got 150 light frames of each, and 50 dark frames (for image noise removal when stacking).

The ‘first pass’ at stacking look good, but I have a reasonable amount of post-processing ahead of me to bring out more detail.

Sadly, I had to pack up at midnight as I had to work today.

Wish I could get a teraport portal to work then teraport instantly to all the lovely and lonely places, do a couple of night shots, then teraport back.

Found my drum sequencer. I have been looking for it for almost 3 months. It was in a box that I thought was full of computer parts.

Wish I could win the lottery and get rid of this millstone as I want to be with my family soonest.

As was pointed out by one of our local meteorologists, staying on Daylight Saving Time would mean 8:40 AM sunrises in late December here.

That would kind of suck, but then again all I’m doing then is coming home from the gym and logging onto work. And if that means more daylight later in the day, I’ll take it.

The most important part for me is that we pick a single standard and just stay with it all year. Changing the clocks twice a year is painful (and don’t even get me started on the time I took the redeye home from the west coast on a Friday night, then went through the DST change on Saturday night. I was disoriented for 2 days).
