What Made You Happy Today?

Why was I thinking of US timezones this morning?

Good to hear that you guys will have it a bit simpler, no more adjusting clocks.

I wish we could stay at Zulu Time but no, we had to leave the EU before they got rid of timezones so BST continues on. Maybe one day sanity will come to Britain.

@Ook now I want turtlebread!

A contract for a customer required that I be on site three hours earlier yesterday than we usually start and they have a ā€œif you’re even one minute late, we’ll penalize youā€ clause in the SLA. I don’t know how much that penalty is, but the first (and last) time I wasn’t there exactly when they said, I had to explain why to our management.

So yesterday was four alarms set on my phone a few minutes apart plus my radio alarm clock to make sure I woke up. I didn’t need most of those, despite only getting about 4 hours of sleep.

Today is day 2 of an extremely screwed up sleep schedule because of this and the time change. I don’t know how long it will take me to get it back to normal. I made a promise to myself that there will never be anything like Daylight Saving Time in any stories I write so my characters don’t have to go through this nonsense.

come visit us :stuck_out_tongue:

And now today’s masterpiece…

It still has to get through the other side of Congress, then signed by El Presidente.

Okay. I have to feed Audrey and make that in sourdough.

@Ook I’d have to sell my car to afford a passport now, possibly a kidney for the flights

In other news, I’m almost finished plastering the kitchen at our new place; six months after we move we will finally be able to boil the kettle in the kitchen rather than the lounge next to all the computers!

I think we did well buying the counter tops ahead of time; building around them has been a pain in the backside but they’d already cost another Ā£120 if we’d waited til now. They’re saying inflation is at 17%…

I know California voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition 7 a few years ago to do this but the state had to get some kind of approval from Congress. Maybe this is what finally does it.

Lots of things. My Shipt order had no substitutions. It’s 75 out today. My house is clean. I get a free expensive dinner at Smith and Wollensky tonight. And tomorrow is the last day I ever have to see the Dr that’s been driving me nuts!

Happy April Fool’s Day! All of our admin accounts expired yesterday with no notice or explanation. There is one person who can fix this in our entire organization and he’s off today.
Long weekend starts now.

Got my Huawei e5576-606 mifi to work with my mikrotik without any hufding and puffing.

Bonus is that cccp and ccp IP’s are also blocked.

Everyone else in the house is out having fun in the Philippines, leaving me alone in the house for the next two weeks. Wife is coming back after those two weeks, but the kids will remain with the in-laws for another 2.5 months to spend some time with family there (and to give them appreciation for what they have).

The silence is deafening in the house so I did the only logical thing: talk to myself and play music/videos in the background.

Interesting thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes Whatsapp would fail to deliver messages.

Which means they’re routing through a blocked IP. (been blocking Chinese and Russian IPs on my mikrotik at home).

Only way to test it, is to disable the blocklists and see if the issue remains, or goes away.

If my hypothesis is true, then it means that somewhere, somebody have the means to try and decrypt whatsapp messages.

I don’t trust Fartbook/Meta’s claim of encryption, it may be to lull us into a false sense of security.

While the war isn’t over Ukraine has repelled the assault on Kyiv. The Russian military has beclowned itself at the behest of the Russian dictator.

The only thing saving the Western World right now is the tons of fabricated readiness reports from communist military leaders to Xi and Putin. Hopefully they won’t be able to fix it before we fix our own Navy.

Figured out how to wrangle some unusually-formatted data into a standardized format and learned that VLOOKUP is exactly what I needed to find values that are going to move position inside the data file. About the only thing I’m not able to conquer right now is the fact that .ODS and .XLSX spreadsheets seem to have incompatible methods of linking to external .CSV files, so short of teaching myself Windows programming, getting the data into the spreadsheet will be a manual process.

But if this works, we’ll be able to make the kind of reliability and cost assessments in less than a minute that the company I work for really wants right now. They look at this kind of data on a national and global scale. Mine will be for the grunts on the ground, because I’m one of them and I know it will help me.

I got the bike :motorcycle: out for a ride today. I so needed to get out of the house and (literally) blow the cobwebs off. Nothing like the sound of a large V-twin echoing off the hillsides…
