My wife and I also finally got Disney+ so we’re Late To The Party that is The Mandalorian. It’s good. Basically a western in space (like no one has every done that before, says Nathan Fillion) down to the minimalist theme music sounding a lot like early Clint Eastwood.
My wife wanted to know what the deal was with Baby Yoda/The Child. I hoped she’d enjoy it even though sci-fi isn’t normally her thing, and she seems to be… But I think she’s tuned out on a couple episodes. So we’re also trying to not totally binge it, and only watching a couple episodes at a sitting. We just finished the Prisoner episode (6 of 9, I think).
I like that even with the helmet the main character is pretty relatable and human. There’s some great cameos in it, too.
Apparently, Disney+ allows limited sharing, so my buddy logged in on my phone so I can watch that show. Also, I think he wanted me to watch some of the older animated movies that I’ve never seen, like Lion King and Toy Story. Can’t remember what else he mentioned. I like that it is Chromecast compatible, but I still haven’t watched anything on it, because between Hulu and Amazon Prime, I’m already behind on a dozen other shows. He did the early adopter three year prepaid deallio, so I guess I have time.
We just finished the first season of Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. It involves the two guys from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, only one as an actor. I was kind of expecting it to be funny, but stupid. It is funny and intelligently written. We really enjoyed it.
We watched the first episode of My Life is Murder, with Lucy Lawless. It looks promising.
After getting a tablet that’s new enough for me to watch things on Disney+, I, too, can enjoy The Mandalorian. However, I’m not sure why logging out of your account is grounds for it to delete what you’ve downloaded. Right now, I’m still logged in with the wifi shut off on the tablet, so I think that still means I can watch the episodes offline.
We just watched the first of six episodes of Beforeigners. I can deal with the subtitles. It’s interesting. We may have to binge the rest of them tomorrow.
People from the past are showing up in the water in groups. One of them (a young viking woman) has been made a police officer and given to an older detective as a partner.
So, a buddy-cop show with time travel and beautiful Nordic scenery. I’m just waiting for someone to say “I’m too old for this shit” or “I’ve only only got 2 weeks to retirement”.
Not Tiger King, that’s for damn sure. It’s all over everything, which makes me want to watch it even less. I know as little as I care to already, and I haven’t even done any kind of searching for it.
I can’t remember who, but someone suggested Brooklyn 99, which I had zero interest in - I was not a big fan of the lead guy that plays Jake Peralta. I’m glad I gave it a shot anyway. I’ve watched at least 2 seasons so far and it has done a very good job of holding my interest.
Also watching Parks & Rec almost solely because of Ron Swanson. I was dubious when Rob Lowe joined the cast, but he isn’t awful.
Wife finally made it through the initial two-part-er of Stargate SG-1, and then a few more, and now admits that she likes it.
I haven’t picked back up on Bosch or The Man In The High Castle, but got hooked on Jack Ryan. But you can’t watch any of those in the background, and Jack Ryan even more so, so I only fire it up when the wife is doing something else and I can devote time/attention to just watching. I’ll be in the office tomorrow, so maybe I’ll make that my lunchtime stream.
Still keeping up with the Rookie and Superstore as they come out.
I just finished ZeroZeroZero which is an 8 episode story about a shipment of cocaine from Mexico to Italy that goes wrong for many of the people involved in it. I loved it but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for something with a lighter mood.
I was a bit the same as you, no interest at all, but my family convinced me to watch it. And I really enjoyed it.
Right up to the latest series (series 7) which is awful. I don’t know whether they changed writers or what, but the current series is completely different to the previous series and not in a good way.
I got 2 minutes into the second episode of the last season of Clone Wars and had to turn it off. I’m invested in the series because I’ve watched it all so far, but it was just terrible shite. Ugh. Awful. Unwatchable.
Getting to the 7th before sucking is better than many, but sucking in the 2nd would be super disappointing. A lot of shows start sucking in season 3 or 4. (Looking at you, Blindspot) Superstore kind of ran out of steam in the 3rd, too, but not so bad that it sucks, thankfully.
I think I’m on season 4 of B99, and season 2 of SG1 with the wife.
The 3rd season of Future Man (Hulu) dropped and it’s just as awesome as the first 2. It’s a bit childish because it’s a Seth Rogan thing and he gets onscreen at the end of season 2 and the beginning of 3. It’s a blood and carnage extravaganza with foul language and nudity, so not for the kiddos.
It’s a very strange show. They hook you in with the repetition so you feel you can participate. It’s funny, but it’s also childish. It’s adult, but it’s also 4th-grade. It’s intelligently written and well acted, but …
You have to really be into hockey culture and understand chirping. Also, drugs and religion and drinking and chores. And dogs.
After tonight’s episode #4, I will be caught up with those fortunate enough to see the first 4 episodes that the reviewers already have seen, including (I believe), @Lee_Ars. I really loved season 1, thought season 2 was very good but went off the rails a bit, and season 3 is so far back up to the standards of the first season. It’s clearly a “mystery box” box show so it’s not for everyone but it will mess with your head if you do like shows like that.
I also might start watching Devs on Hulu (FX on Hulu) because I’ve heard good things about it.
Devs is one of those weird series where the ads kind of had us interested, but I looked up the description and was left uninterested. Let us know if you enjoy it.
I will buy Westworld S3 when it is available in physical format; I adored the first season and really enjoyed the second (though it definitely went a bit wonky).
About halfway through S3 of Simpsons. My children adore it. Most of the humor ages surprisingly well, so far. I do have to pause to explain certain cultural references or sometimes technological nuance (e.g. lack of internet everywhere, lack of cells everywhere, How We Used To Do Things).
At least you’re not having to explain that it was normal for people to be in crowds outside like that, then. We’ve joked about this while watching TV recently, and now I’m wondering if scripted shows that are set in the modern era will have a ‘Quarantine Episode’ when they get back where you see everyone stuck at home and such.
