No, not-cheap at all. I was going to get the next model down in the range, but my GF convinced me to buy the “super waterproof” ones. Given our crazy weather down here, and the likelihood I’ll be riding a lot more from here on, it made sense. (And listening to one’s GF is always the best option. )
I’ll be riding to a work planning session tomorrow, so will try to remember a post-ride new boot review…
Yours look good, too.
I think we’re pretty lucky with how far riding gear has progressed since I started riding. Comparing my gear now, to what it was like back then is a bit concerning.
TL;DR - Damned comfortable, highly recommended. Would buy again.
Don’t know what else to say, really. They fit well, although a bit of a struggle to get on and off my feet. The velcro is super-sticky and needs both hands to unstick. Only downside is that they are physically thicker (sole + boot) than my old ones so I had trouble getting my toes under the gear lever. (I have adjustable foot-rests, so I may be able to work some magic here…)
I imagine in winter they will be good and warm, as my feet were a bit over-warm when walking around in them.
My astrophotography gear has arrived. One star tracker, one wedge mount, one extra camera mount. Now to learn how to drive it, and how to find the South Celestial Pole.
18 days later, this finally shipped. Not at all impressed with the customer service. No communication at all until I e-mailed last week, to which they just responded that they were expecting another shipment on Monday and would process them in the order received. For that kind of delay–especially when your site claims 3-day shipping–I would expect proactive notification.
As a seller of online items, I can tell you that shipping this year has been absolutely horrendous. Post offices were hitting Christmas level volume all summer. Right now, it’s unimaginable.
However, what you describe is a vendor problem. A shitty vendor problem. Problems with a shitty vendor.
Really, just a “hey, we got swamped, here’s our best guess but no promises, let us know if that absolutely won’t work for you” would have been fine; I don’t care if it arrives before Christmas since it’s just a toy for me anyway. But the complete silence for two full weeks is pretty ridiculous.
When I ordered an adapter for my Cardo Packtalk Bold from Xtreme Helmets in April, I got a message that was pretty much that… “Hey, our shipping is super back-logged, because most of our warehouse folks are forced to stay home because of COVID. It looks like it will be a couple weeks before we can ship it. Do you want to cancel, or would you like us to put the order on hold and let you know when we will be able to ship it?”
I told them I was not in a hurry, and asked if they could process the payment, and just ship it when they could get to it. Just add it to the queue, essentially, but get the billing done, so I didn’t forget about it and get a seemingly random charge later.
I’m guessing they got a lot of responses that were much more negative, but they did what I asked, so I was happy. My part shipped eleven days later, and as a bonus, they refunded an extra, ten bucks! That was on top of them already having the best price I could find, and using a coupon code I found on the internet! Most of what they sell is helmet related, but with customer service like that, they’ll be the first place I check when I’m looking for motorcycle accessories.
I could wish there were literally any other distributor in this country for the thing I bought.
But I’m still excited to get it. I was worried it might not show before I leave in a few months and I’d just be out of luck. Where I’m going, mail requires an overnight trip to the embassy, so will be very limited.
One Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer all setup and ready to go…
Once it gets dark enough I’ll be out tonight to try and get a long exposure shot of Jupiter & Saturn in their almost-conjunction. Hopefully they’ll be high enough above the horizon that I can sea them.
Yes, when on the tripod, it is that tall. The camera is about 6 feet off the ground. Which means I won’t be bent into a pretzel trying to look at the screen when setting it all up.
Shiny new promotion at work as of yesterday.
It’s a temporary thing that brings me up to the level I should be paid at for the work I’m doing, but it gives me the opportunity to apply for similar jobs at that level. THEN when I get on a list, my boss can make it permanent.
It’s such a convoluted way of getting a promotion. They can’t just promote me, and they don’t want to make a competition just for my job, but once I can prove that I can fill out the proper forms that meet their bureaucratic needs … I can finally get to where I should have been 10 years ago and start to climb this new tier of advancement.
A couple of friends had given me Amazon gift cards for Christmas and I’d been intending to get a green screen and stand with them. As I was showing Mr. TM the one I was going to get he said “well what about that one” and pointed to this. It ended up costing more, of course, but I think it gives me everything I need to start playing with doing some “studio” shooting and maybe trying to get into stock photography. Bonus - the company I got it from is in Canada. Now all I have to do is get enough space cleaned up in my craft room/office so I can set it up…
An iPhone SE. And I’ve only burned through 15 gigs in the first two hours updating my Mac mini and Steam games. The best part being it -only- took rwo hours. This thing is way faster than the last phone I used.
I’ma summing the modern SE, not the previous edition, which I’m still using: I’ll update soon, I think, as the battery on my SE is getting dangerously low.
Then again it’s also the time of year when if I’m leaving the house I almost certainly have a coat with pockets for a battery pack, so I can stretch it out a bit.
