Android Apps

Yeah, I’ve gone back to Nova for now. I was using the Buzz Launcher which is like the MyColorScreen app as you can download themes and layouts easily but without all the bloat. But it’s fairly locked down and not easy to change a layout once you get it. So back to the open launcher for me. I did get some ideas though.

I’m on CM 10.1.3 for my Galaxy Nexus. I was running CM 11 but it was sluggish and unstable so I slid back. With the Xposed Framework and the changes in how apps are breaking out, I don’t see a need to keep my kernel at the latest (I’m running 4.2.2.). My rig is still in pieces after the move so maybe once that’s all back together I’ll look at reloading my phone or maybe trying the latest ROM again. A reload will probably fix all the performance issues I’ve been having.

Yeah, thread necromancy. But this was the right place to put this:

WTF?

The potentially-good news is this may force the carriers to allow updates finally.

Interesting that this interview, following Motorola’s announcements of new phones yesterday, came out in the aftermath.

I’m still wary. Even if the carrier is cut out of the equation, how fast will Motorola really push out updates

And for those of us on Verizon, it’s a thrice bitten, four times go f*** yourself situation. They royally fscked up the Nexus S. They dragged their feet for 6 months on “certifying” the 2013 Nexus 7 LTE (it took a media campaign and threats form the FCC before they finally allowed it), and the Nexus 6 took forever before it was allowed on their network too. So you’ll excuse me for saying “yeah, right” when I hear claims that the new Moto phones will be available on Verizon (even if they’re released with all the right radio hardware & software) in a reasonable timeframe, if at all.

I’m crowdsourcing suggestions for a good shareable grocery list app. I’ve used a bunch, and some have been bought out or stopped working. The Dragonlady likes Inkpad Notepad, and I’ve used Out of Milk a bit. I’m trying to find something that we can both use to update a common list. I really appreciate the functionality that separates the list by category like dairy or bakery.

I don’t know if it’s shareable, but we use a Google Keep tick-box list for our shopping list.

Perhaps a shared Google Sheet file would fit your needs?

After arguing about it some more, we’re just going to stick with paper.

I’ve (or we) tried both Out of Milk and Google Keep lists. I would have liked to stick with Keep, but it didn’t fit with the wife’s MO of texting me random lists of items with no punctuation, especially after I’ve left the store.
(blah blah blah corn chips blah blah… I come home with Fritos. She wanted corn on the cob and either potato chips or tortilla chips. FML)

We use Google Keep as well. It’s really basic, but it works fine for us.

Yeah, honestly, it worked great. But my wife only used it a few times before deciding it was more complicated than just sending me last minute text messages when I’m about to leave work. Ha!

I’d have to disagree with that. Strenuously.
It’d be about the same effort for her to use Keep, and many times easier for you.
Can you start ignoring her texts and say you checked Keep and there was nothing there?

I used to use something called Avocado.Don’t know if it’s still active but it was a shared document sort of thing.

Oh, I agree with you. How she can spend hours on Facebook, but think a Keep checklist is too hard is beyond me. There are a handful of apps that she uses all the time, and it seems like anything outside that little world has a very low likelihood of being used. Probably having a language barrier doesn’t help (her native language is Spanish).
