Home Ownership

We used to have a very extensive list of casual and off-the-books contractors and handy-people. We’ve moved to a different province now, so we have to start all over again. There are a lot of people willing to do work for cash, but we have to find the ones that are worth keeping.

You gotta have a guy.

Well, if the contractor is telling the truth, we are about a month out from finishing the living room roof.

What, did I not tell you my house had a redwood fall on it back in February?

Was it by accident (tree felling gone durr wrong), or was it natural?

Storm, so natural.

Guess what? Tempered glass can spontaneously shatter! Last week my beautiful shower door turned itself into this…

WHOA what happened??? was it pressure/temp issues???

Apparently this sometimes just happens. The glass company said that they’ve seen this happen to 3 in 20 years, and my insurance adjuster said that he’s seen one claim for this.

I was in my office when I heard a huge crash and I ran into my bedroom to see what on earth the cats had knocked over to find this. There is no way a cat did this.

I cant imaging the damage the cat would receive from running into it!

Thats crazy.

My wife did that to the door of my Bambu printer a couple weeks ago, it’s a shocking sound when safety glass shatters.

At least one of my cats was drinking or near the water fountain when it happened. I had to clean up most of the water from that too. I still have a bucket of rocks from the shower out in my yard to be rinsed of tiny glass splinters, though the rest is all cleaned up.

Speaking of glass doors… A while ago one of my ex-bosses and myself removed a glass door from a comms cabinet.

Can’t remember exactly why we needed to remove it… but anyway.

We were very careful with it, and was about to put it down when it just shattered.

Glass doors do look nice and all that, but it is just an added risk…

Apparently I had a one day lapse in my home insurance coverage, which just happened to be on the day that the shower door spontaneously shattered. :frowning:

I find that to be very suspicious on the insurance companies’ part…

It was bad timing on the shower door part. Things have been really tight for me, so I put off payment on my insurance. The day I called and got things paid up was the day this happened. Apparently they take a day to reinstate the insurance.

What do you think the R value is for using stuffed animals as insulation?

Better than the air mine was insulated with a 100 years ago,

Protip: if your gas oven takes a long time to ignite and makes a big WHOMP sound when it finally does, your igniter is shot and needs to be replaced.
