Politics is Stupid

Okay, a servicemember in Georgia has a threatening letter, apparently from a Muslim, left on his car, and similar to other threats have been posted to military Facebook pages.

Why is it this is only being talked about on neo-con sites?

ETA: And all of the sources are circular.

I’ve seen this off and on for the last few years. I think a lot of “military” sites get shoved into the neo-con basket since they are usually rabidly pro-military. The military in general doesn’t like reporters and traditional news, even Fox, since they spend as much time looking for someone to say something stupid as they do trying to get the story. When I was in I was told not to talk to the press unless I was told to.

I did see a couple letters from command warning people about social media use advertising their locations and who is home and who isn’t at any time, partially due to threats received.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/14/us/social-media-military-isis/

http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/22/politics/online-threat-against-troops/

I just googled Military Members Threatened.

Originally, I was only seeing this on The Blaze and Fox. And it seems like every employee at Fox had to comment on it on Facebook.

I did finally find a local version of the story (an NBC affiliate). They didn’t pump up the military angle. In fact the only mention was the person may have been targeted based on their military license plates.

The way Fox is talking, there should be a SWAT team guarding every vehicle owned by a servicemember or retiree.

It’s a legit threat, Ft. Hood, Naval Center, and Chattanooga, and a good reminder. It’s been a long time since military families have been told loose lips sink ships.

Fox is likely doing their normal OMG FACTS!!! LOOK!!! Just like HEAT WAVE!!! STORM!!! COLD FRONT!!!1!1!!1!

Most of the regular news sounds like mostly deaf men hanging out in front of an A&P yelling at each other.

As well as their usual “this is the Democrats fault”.

Well, can’t really fault them on this one. A harder stand on the red line with Syria and not prematurely pulling out of Iraq and ISIS is still a pipe dream. If you don’t bomb the shit out of Libya then it’s not even that. It’ll be even better when Iran has more spare cash to fund them.

Iran funding ISIS? Won’t happen. ISIS are Sunni fundamentalists and Iran is a majority Shiite nation.

My mistake you are correct. That’s part of the whole damn problem and I knew that. The Sauds and ISIS are more likely to make common cause than Iran and ISIS. Iran is funding militias in Iraq to fight ISIS already, derp.

The British fucked the royal hell out of that place when they went vertical on mountain and stream borders instead of horizontal on tribal and religious borders.

From the Wikipedia article on Minco Oklahoma:

After the attack on the United States on September 11th, 2001, Minco temporarily became the home for the Declaration of Independence. The famed historical documents remained on display at the Sooner Easy Stop gas station until socialist United States President Barack Obama ordered their return to Washington DC in August 2009.

This paragraph has been deleted several times, and put back in.

This is when the power games begin. “You OK?” he asks. “I’m waiting on you, this is your job,” she replies tersely. “You seem very irritated,” he responds.

First of all, that was the second time he asked her if she was okay. We encourage police officer to take a more human approach to policing, so officers will ask that question, sometimes repeatedly. The first time he asked, she blew him off. And then she tried to pretend that she had given hm her license, when she hadn’t.

When he asked her how long she was going to be in town, she could have said that she was coming back to work at A&M. That would have given them both an opening to turn the conversation around. Instead, she told him she was only there for a couple days.

And exactly what is so “power games” about his interaction, before she pops off and tries to make it all his fault? The fact was she did not signal, no matter what the reason was. She could have said at the start, “I changed lanes to get out of your way, I thought maybe you were on your way to a call, but you’re right, I didn’t signal.”

Instead she cops a major attitude and accuses him of writing her a ticket for bullshit reasons (in fact he was only going to give her a warning, just like the previous person he stopped). And when he asks her to put out her cigarette, which even as a smoker I recognize as a valid request, even from a non-cop, she insists she doesn’t have to. Which even the dumbest person in the world knows you should do if a police officer asks you to. Cigarettes can easily be used against a police officer.

Even the media seems to be viewing the video through a distorted lens. I’ve watched the whole thing, and the officer’s accounting, while slightly skewed in his favor (news flash - everybody does that, automatically and without thinking about it), is consistent with what I am seeing and hearing.

But he was convicted without a trial by Monday morning. It sucks, but this is one personable police officer who will probably be hanging up his badge soon.

What were we saying about special interests again?

My wife had read a report that said she had THC in her system. If she looked a bit rough, and was with out of town plates he’s going to ask more questions.

“She was pulled over for something so insignificant and because of an officer who felt like maybe that his ego was bruised. … When you tell me that you’re going to ‘light’ me up, I feel extremely threatened and concerned, and I’m not going to get out of my car,” Bland’s sister, Sharon Cooper, said.

These people think in ways I don’t really understand. When I get pulled over, I have my registration, license and insurance card in my lap with my hands on the wheel at 10 and 2. When he gets to the car I call him sir and I if I’m smoking I put the fucking cigarette out. If he asks me a question I give him as little of the truth as I can get away with, but I don’t lie. If a cop tells me to get out of the car… I fucking get out of the car.

Not a damn thing happens if she carries on a conversation with this cop. If she had said, I’m fine, just a little tired then we’re done here. OR if she hadn’t been smoking pot (Considering how long THC stays in the system who knows the last time she used some) and acting like there was something wrong.

OTOH, dude needs a Valium. And if I was confronted with Captain Asshole maybe I wouldn’t be Mr. Well Behaved Citizen either. But I’m not sure I’d tick him off in the first place.

The Marijuana issue brings something up for me though. An awful lot of people keep talking about it like it mellows everyone out. And I’ve seen some people act really fucked up on marijuana. Paranoia, spastic energy, rage, and really poor decision making. There are reasons in any group of people there is a dude that’s not allowed to smoke pot. Michael Brown, the kid in Baltimore, and this woman, not exactly Cheech and Chong chilling out, the stuff people are growing now is on a whole other level compared to the crap my parents smoked. And maybe some of it is just too strong.

And to the gabillion people that keep calling Texas this racist pit of while people, look at the demographics and let me know how far you can make it in Texas if you can’t deal with other races.

Things have changed since I started teaching. The vibe is different. I wish there were a less blunt way to put this, but my students sometimes scare me — particularly the liberal ones.

The last paragraph (the editors’ note) is truly sad.

Aaaaand that didn’t take long:

Unfortunately, threats are a horrible reality for many women online and a topic we intend to report on further.

Men receive threats online I think it was three or four times as often, and are 77% of homicides. Tell me again about the horrible violence against the women. In addition, while not parity 40% of domestic abuse is against men.

I read the original article before the change. This guy is reaping what he and people like him have sown. I have some baby boomer friends, and I keep telling them when they get all crappy about today’s society that it’s their fault. They were the useful idiots destroying society, and then not putting anything up in it’s place. While the outfit we were wearing in the 50’s was a straightjacket, it did keep the cold off, now we’re running around naked, when the least they could have done is put together a cardigan or a sport coat for us to wear.

Yay, government being stupid!!!

http://pjmedia.com/blog/yes-obamanet-is-here-meet-connecthome-the-free-internet-that-costs-taxpayers-much-more-than-a-private-sector-plan/

That’s $545.45 per assisted family given that 275,000 figure, assuming $150 million is the total cost. Directly attributable Federal overhead will be 25% to 50% more, and HUD’s record of efficiency isn’t great, so this estimate could be low.

So — it’s not particularly competitive with the $14.95/month ($179.40/year, before taxes) DSL-only offering from AT&T, which includes AT&T presumably making a profit.

Government spends $545.45 per family for high bandwidth access at $10 per month. When a private solution exists at $14.95 a month. And another public program exists at the Library.

This has to be one of the stupidest things I have seen this election cycle.

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jul/25/us-elections-racist-system

including black transgender women

All 1,500 of them. Not that attacking any people is OK, but that’s reaching to try and get everyone under your racial tent.

The Guardian is always good for a laugh, or head clearing rage. How about you don’t vote because your vote won’t count because for all anyone knows American elections are filled with fraud. Of course there is no way to check this as most places allow same day registration, weeks of absentee voting, and no ID required. Even the simplest election controls, like the Iranian indelible ink, are ignored.

Democrats would have us believe that there is no fraud at all, despite the people that have shown how easy it is to do, and not get caught. Al Franken is a Senator because of voting fraud. The number of ballots that should have been thrown out was larger than his winning margin. Is Obama president because of it, no, but he can thank Lois Lerner for that.

In any case, quitting the system for crackpot ideals, and then wimping out on actually calling for revolution doesn’t solve anything.

Well, Jindall may have shot himself in the foot. with his absolutely lack-luster response to the shooting. The man rarely shows any emotion, other than annoyance (and he just comes off as prissy, IMO). Even a few openly-conservative critics are asking why he even bothered talking about it, considering that he basically said “there’s nothing we can do.”

Trump’s lawyer is threatening the Daily Beast.

And honestly, I have no idea what the Democrats are doing.

I’m sure the Socialists, Social Democrats, Libertarians, Communists, and Greens will have candidates, but we probably won’t know their names until we look at the ballots. If Nader runs again, the Greens might as well disband, because he’s made them totally ineffective.

That’s ok, the constitutionalists and libertarians will run someone too. Nader, didn’t her get run over by a Corvair?

I think Jindal is screwed no matter what. He’s not brown enough for the Democrats, and he seems to think that he needs to be analytical about everything else.

I can’t wait for Trump to flare out, and he better. There are quite a few people bringing up funds he’s given to the Clintons over the years and how he can spit his bile at everyone but Mrs. Clinton is starting to get kind of obvious.
