Random Musings (and associated non sequiturs) v. 3.0

I really need to stop startling the skunks during my early morning walks. Today I got home and saw a skunk wandering around in my front yard, so I stop and stand still. The skunk was apparently oblivious to my presence until it was about a foot away from me. It jumped, raised it’s tail, danced around, then scampered past me. I actually ran over my feet. 0_0

and genetically engineered?

I wonder if the homeless people who go rummaging through the garbage are going to come back tomorrow. Last week we’re pretty sure that one of them got hit by the friendly neighbourhood skunk…

Probably not nice of me to laugh like that at somebody who got skunked… Not nice being homeless and all that, and having to rummage through other people’s rubbish :persevere:

I live in a pretty affluent area. No one has to go rummaging through the garbage bins. There are a lot of homeless services in town to help them out, but many of them have substance abuse or mental problems, so they don’t use them. These are the dangerous ones, and I’d rather not run into them during my early morning walk, to be honest.

Good guard skunk. Good boy.

Edit: Based on the smell, I think the homeless may have come back, but run into guard skunk again.

My old neighborhood has professional gleaners who roam the neighborhood on trash days.

My uncle is one in Cincinnati, it’s amazing what people throw away. He used to hit each area on it’s trash day and then unload his big flatbed at the rummage sale at wholesale.

I keep meaning to check the local mall for it’s trash policy and see what there is. I don’t want to get into a turf war though, my truck is still too nice for that sort of stuff.

2017 : Houston : We have a problem.

Jokes aside, having seen a couple of youtube snippets it does not bring home the reality of what just happened there as I never experienced anything like that.

May everybody be successful in rebuilding all that got broken and damaged, and continue onwards.

Seen while looking for wood on Amazon (as you do) in a product description:

The limitations are endless!

I don’t think they thought that one through.

Following on from here:

Would I be risking my marriage if I bought a new dog bowl and tried to acclimate the dog to it while $Wife is on a trip?

That you have to ask the question indicates the answer is probably ‘yes’.

Yeah, but it might be a time where “easier to ask forgiveness than permission” is applicable. Like buying a motorcycle.

I have, in the past, bought the dog a toy on previous weekends $Wife was out of town as a blatant attempt to buy his cooperation.

I’m guessing parents of children have done the same in similar circumstances.

I don’t understand. Why would anyone choose a handle that literally means “I’m a dick”?

Sheer honesty?

Is this a trick question?

My time in online gaming has taught me to expect names like that in English, why not a foreign language?

Man, the dudes in N2Deep were just soo white. How did anyone not call that crap out?

edit: hah, research… they were Chicano Rappers?

Yeah, I see them, but I don’t understand why someone would choose them?

On the plus side, one of those people will be required to change their handle the next time they log in to PoGo. :smiling_imp:

Since when does it get to 108 here?!?

I don’t have students today, so I’m going to wear shorts and tank top to work. I’m also going to take my cooling cloth so I don’t keel over and die. Not sure how I’m going to keep the chinchillas alive.

When you go out walking, you see a lot, I’ve found. Sometimes things you’d rather not see. I walked past the scene of an accident today. The bicyclist was laying in the bike lane bleeding, two cars were stopped, and about four young people were standing around looking helpless. I asked if they needed help and if they’d called 911, which they had. In fact, the fire truck was half a block away at that point.

I realised then that I had absolutely nothing to contribute, and would probably be in the way, so I left. :frowning: I hate feeling helpless.
