For those not clued in on Teh Jawa, a primer.
Yeah, I was a contractor at Aych Pee in Vancouver when this started way back when. I left that job in September 2001. Freshly laid off, I enlisted after the Iraq invasion in '03. 15 years ago on 30 April.
His posts detailing his adventurous IT career were funny, entertaining, and completely bogus. After the truth was found out, we got a one-time post from some woman who claimed to know him telling some of their relationship and how he had used her. Iâve often wondered if it wasnât Jawa taking one last stab at us. At some point, he became âHe Whose Name Shall Not Be Spokenâ. I got in trouble for speaking it. Looks like itâs okay to do that again.
Wow - I remember Jawa, too. Have I been around (on and off) that long?
Me too.
Iâm one of a few people on here who met Jawa in person (with @Lee_Ars and KK in Dallas all the way back in 2003) . I should have twigged that he was full of it then because he seemed not at all like his online persona. But I shrugged it off as âOK, this dude has seen some shit so maybe heâs more reserved in personâ. Of course that was before we knew he was never in the military and hadnât seen any of said shit. Sometimes I wonder if his buddy gixxerjasen wasnât just a sock puppet he set up to give himself some credibility.
Jawa was still posting when I first joined here too, but not for very long so that dates me to about 15 years as well.
On a more random musing note, who or what is a Dawd, and why is their offspring used to describe someone who is moving really slowly?
The xkcd comic for today added context menus with a lot of choices to explore.
BAH! TIME WASTER!!!

I swear that cat has his own alarm clock.
Who wasted their time with that hoverboard game?
the rm -rf thing did zippo on my Mint system.
I cast longstrider as a bard in the D&D game and it linked me to this comicâŚhttps://xkcd.com/1065/
Dude is brilliant, and has lots of time.
I got eaten by a grue. Several times.
Thanks, @sig
And somewhere i always wonder if maybe it was all true plus even more. That he was so deep in it that the cover was a cover for something even wilder.
I guess itâs part of many nature to imagine things being more narrative, and less beige .

Iâm not sure whatâs worse, getting a song stuck in your head so it becomes an âear wormâ, or the fact that I canât seem to tell if Iâm singing the original âCalendar Girlâ song or the Purina Cat Chow commercial version called âCalendar Catâ.
This is a cool story, I donât know much about wrestling, but this is well written and fascinating. A bit longâŚ
Well, no further criminal investigation/charges. Just sociopath/pathological liar or maybe just batcrap crazy.
Pro tip: donât weave your web of lies with things that can easily be documented as false. And cryinâ out loud, donât save the receipts for your props. Pay cash and burn the paperwork.
Watched Jumanji (1995) yesterday evening. Back then it was good, but todayâs CGI have spoilt us and you can clearly see that the animals are rendered, most especially the lion and monkeys.
- Invite friends to join you on vacation
- Tell them itâs âno kidsâ
- Listen for âNo kids!?!â from 3 counties away (said friends have 3 kids, including a set of twins)
We booked our next cruise last week while out on the water. Itâs not until next year, itâs a short one, but itâs just the two of us as itâll be our 15th anniversary. The aforementioned friends will be a few weeks from their 20th, so the timing seemed good.
