Random Musings (and associated non sequiturs) v. 3.0

Yeah, I drive past the FEMA camp here in Indy all the time. Just to see if they’ve started stacking coffins yet.

If you go deep enough into the rabbit holes you really do find that the far right and the far left are really the absolute same. More so than center left and center right. The government is hunting all of them, Chem trails are popular, pot is good, God is dead (Or the second coming is yesterday but Undead Hitler running the Pentagon is holding him hostage).

Didn’t mean to leave the right out, I just haven’t dug that deep into lefty loonies until recently and I’m used to the right wing crack pots. I also don’t dig into right crazies as much because I’ve heard the tame versions and already blew those off.

Without understanding that only the government has a mandate to protect free speech and everyone else can muzzle shit all day.

And from the Sacramento County Sheriff press release:

The five financial institutions victimized by this series are:
Citibank July 1 @ 2:42PM 4005 Manzanita Avenue
Bank of the West July 9 @ 10:43AM 4001 Manzanita Avenue
Chase Bank July 14 @ 11:39AM 9165 Kiefer Boulevard
Chase Bank July 15 @ 1:17PM 3600 El Camino Avenue
Chase Bank July 15 @ 2:01PM 3601 Fair Oaks Boulevard

How the hell does someone rob two branches in less than an hour, from the same bank? I would think the branches would be put on alert on the 14th. I know Wells Fargo routinely does that when a branch is robbed.

And yeah, the first two were next door to each other. Brilliant security.

There was a guy in Hawaii when I was stationed out there that robbed I think 5 or 6 banks in one afternoon.

They were having all kinds of issues catching him and figuring out a pattern until someone saw him jump on or off a bus. He was catching The Bus and getting the first bank he saw, then jumping on the next bus that came by. No gun, no knife, just a note.

I would lay odds, if she stops now she’ll get out free and clear. I’ve read articles saying it’s like a drug though, they get addicted to the rush and the easy money, and the spending habits that make robbing a bank in the first place cause them to blow through the robbery money faster and faster.

What do you get from one cashier anyway? A couple thousand?

Huh. So Sandisk is releasing a wireless USB flash drive, ostensibly for smartphones.

I don’t think I would be comfortable with that. It’s only a matter of time before somebody figures out how to hack those.

Yeah, I am overprotective of my data,

Cough drops that say to call your doctor after seven days of coughing are stupid. It took me five or six days of coughing to buy the damn cough drops asshole.

How the hell does something like this happen?

Several St. Pete Beach homes were evacuated and a stretch of beach was cleared Sunday while experts investigated the discovery of a World War II-era flash bomb.

My daughter went past Calculus in high school, taking AP courses, she could transfer the credits. But she takes the placement test and she’s in math 102 or some crap.

Doesn’t do you any damn good to learn the information for two weeks.

Edit: And she just called me, she retested today and tested at the level of class she just took. WTF?

I have been told repeatedly (including by an English teacher in junior high) that the British custom of referring to the United States as a plural (as in a number of states) instead of a singular (as in a nation) was a sign of the British refusing to admit that the U.S. was an actual, singular entity. But after reading through a few articles, mainly centered around soccer, I noticed that the British usage is to use the plural verb forms for any “singular” that is in fact a plural. For example, “Arsenal are negotiating”. The American usage is to refer to it with the singular verb form, “Arsenal is negotiating”. But the American usage is still screwed up, because we use both interchangeably: “The Giants are negotiating”, “The United States is negotiating”, “Proctor and Gamble is negotiating”, etc.

Maybe the British aren’t that interested in putting the U.S. down after all.

Um, @Woodman? Could you please let us know that you are okay?

I come from the Ft Wayne direction, not Chicago, 69 not 65. The big accident on my road was yesterday and only closed the highway for 4 hours.

Only in Indiana would a truck full of cooking oil hit a truck full of frozen chickens. The details on this one are a mess. And I can’t imagine being the passenger that survived. Going on a trip with whoever, and now I’m released from the hospital in West Lafayette Indiana, with no car, likely no phone, no nothing, and whoever I was with is dead. It’s like a Twilight Zone episode.

According to our own documentation we’re supposed to be a collection of individual states. We’re plural singular.

One of the camp counselors at horse camp asked my wife if my daughter was developmentally disabled. She’s been so excited about horse camp that she literally is having issues stopping talking. She is getting so excited that she can’t communicate normally and is talking all over herself without finishing one idea before running off at another.

It’s a behavior we’ve noticed before, and it’s very off-putting. She works herself into a frenzy and kids her age have no idea what to do about it, while older ones think she is broken. It’s cute at one level, but then she sometimes goes that extra step into OMG WTF is wrong with this girl. We’re going to work on some calming routines and what socially acceptable signs of being really excited are.

I’m gonna sleep in tomorrow. 6:00 AM.

We went through stuff like this with Jr, and to some degree still do.

The answer turned out to be “bear hugs” - apparently there are certain pressure points that trigger a calming reaction when pressure is applied. Giving yourself a strong hug is one way to do that, though there seem to be a number of techniques. We found it made a massive difference once he could spot the onset and calm himself down.

The Rush concert last night was awesome. I’m dragging ass this morning but it was totally worth it. Would love to get tix for tomorrow night in LA but it’s not looking good.

Why did I think today was Monday?

Sometimes I wish I was still Catholic, and that I did confession.

I am so looking forward to living somewhere that doesn’t have worse cellphone reception than the Merrimac.

San Francisco is great for flyers, posters, etc. But around here we have a lot of political fliers pasted up with things like “Free Michael Whatshisname”.

I keep wanting to slap a sticker over them: “with your purchase of $50 or more”.
