Random Musings (and associated non sequiturs) v. 3.0

Wow, you’re getting much more mature items in your feed than I am. I posted a comment on a joke a couple days ago, completely non-political, and I got slammed with a bunch of replies to my comment had to point out which person in the joke was which party or religion, and how the joke only proved how oppressed InsertMinorityHere™ really is and how everyone else in the universe should be lynched for their part in the rampant [sic] oppression.

I’m about ready to actually start oppressing someone, I mean really if I’m going to be accused of being a fascist right wing nutjob where the fuck is all my cismalewhite privilege? I know I have an advantage in some social situations, but really I need to start getting my hate on or something.

I had to cross a police line to get home. I hope that doesn’t make me a terrorist now.

Seriously though what kind of insane policeman puts cordon tape across your driveway entrance? Seriously? I mean blocking off the end of the road is fine but blocking individual driveways is a dick move. And a waste of police tape.

EDIT well shit do I feel bad now, a child was killed in a hit-and-run on the street adjacent to ours.

My online storage is starting to resemble the array of external hard drives I have scattered around the house.

I just bought an SSD for my MBP. Amazon has informed me that because of this purchase, I’m now entitles to 1 year of unlimited cloud storage on their service. Which means I now have:

  • 7.8GB on Dropbox
  • 25GB on one GDrive account
  • 15GB on another GDrive account
  • 5GB on iCloud
  • I don’t know how much on OneDrive. X2, since I have an account w/ my work address too. I’m storing a total of one file on it
  • Unlimited on Amazon (for a year)

Thanks to their being scattered, my slow-as-hell upload (thanks TW!), and in some cases volatile nature, I’m barely using any of them to their potential (or not at all). And I’m not paying for a single byte on any of them.

That’s sad, but it still doesn’t change the fact that cordoning off your house was unnecessary (and a dick move)

I’m so old, I can remember when “tweaking” meant adjusting my computer’s settings and applications.

I remember a lot of veteran techs 10-15 years ago referred to the small screwdrivers, often pen-sized with a pocket clip and branded with a company logo, as ‘tweakers.’

I propose we take back terms and start referring to the long, oddly-shaped screwdriver a lot of hardware techs pick up in their kit for some special issue and then can’t remember why as simply, “Meth-Head.”

Tweaking here generally just means ‘to make small adjustments to’, for ongoing projects, or especially used in the case of a project that is nearing completion: “a few more tweaks…”.

Meth-heads are meth-heads, when they’re on withdrawal we just say they’re “suff’rin”.

Here, we have a different name for a meth-head going through withdrawals: thieves.

Ugh, when the other half is refusing to go to his hospital appointment because I can’t go in with him since I’ve managed to ruin the parking permit and the new one hasn’t arrived.

There’s a difference between “being inconvenient” and “being downright awkward on bloody purpose”. He’s perfectly capable of going there by himself; it’s not an anxiety thing, he doesn’t have anything like agoraphobia or such, he knows that I know there’s nothing stopping him, he just doesn’t want to be bored while he’s in the waiting room is all. But oh no, it’s fine, we’ll cancel his appointment with the ENT specialist that our GP made specially for him so he could jump the three month queue because he won’t go in there by himself.

And he has the nerve to ask why I’m cross.

My ex would demand that I go with him to his doctor appointments, claiming that I would know what was going on with his health (I found out the hard way that he was lying to his doctor too).

The first time seeing one particular doctor, he told me to shut up, in front of his doctor, when I asked a question.

Guess who went to his own damned appointments, by himself, after that?

I can see why he is now your ex

Oh, there are many reasons he is my ex. That was the least of them.

“Best Rap Album”? I don’t think that’s possible on this plane of existence.

Exxon and BP make coffee?

There was a story a few years ago about Outer Banks (North Carolina) residents scavenging bags of chips (doritos, I think) that washed ashore. What made it interesting is that a certain amount of scavenging is in the blood for natives of that area: The shores are known as the ‘Graveyard of the Atlantic’ for a reason, and they’ve been scavenging from shipwrecks as long as there’s been wrecks. The chips were (like this coffee) likely from a sealed shipping container.
