I was going to post it elsewhere, but I’ll add it here. That was really fast.
Circa one week ago:
Elon Musk: “Who has two thumbs and just bought 9.1% of Twitter’s stock, making them the largest shareholder? This guy.”
Twitter management: “Um, want a seat on the board?”
Elon: “No thanks. Instead, how about I buy your company for $43B?”
Twitter mgmt: “Nope, nope, nope, nope! Where’s those poison pills we can use to make the stock price too expensive for him?”
Elon: “Hey, guys, I just arranged additional funding and I can offer $47B.”
Twitter mgmt: “$47B, you say? Maybe we should consider it.”
Elon: “As your new owner, I’m taking the company private. Other than that, I want to reassure you everything is status quo.”
What are the chances that Musk will not go through with buying Twitter? He made a statement recently about something he thought should happen, and then at the end he kind of said don’t take this to the bank because what if he didn’t own Twitter.
My neighbor’s relative passed yesterday that was staying with them. I only talked with him a few times while doing yard work and found out recently he had some serious health problems. He went out to a family event and passed not long after coming back from it.
If I could, I’d apologize to the dispatcher for being terse with them. They just seemed to be repeating questions I had already answered and the person that brought him back home looked like they were performing CPR correctly.
Author Eric Flint. I didn’t like every book but him, but he seemed like a good moderator to Baen publishing’s more extreme tendencies and will be missed.
That’s two of the main actors from Goodfellas in the span of two months (Ray Lotta on May 26, but I don’t think he was posted here). Someone check on Jimmy Conway, Tommy DeVito, and Karen Hill.
Ivana Trump, first wife of Donald, died on July 14. She fell down the stairs at her home and suffered blunt impact injuries to her torso. She was 73.
Donald sent out a message saying he was saddened it happened. Attached to the bottom was an ad to donate to his campaign to save America. This was probably an automated attachment, but it someone should have removed it before it was sent.
He canceled two of his rallies and then he and his children were given a short delay from having to testify in a lawsuit. I will have to double-check, but I think he did hold one or two rallies during the bereavement time.
At the funeral, Donald Jr. told a story about how Ivanka had broken a chandelier and blamed him for it, so his mother beat him with a wooden spoon. About the time he finally convinced her he was innocent, she was too tired to deal with Ivanka. He also shared that she excelled in emasculating him and others. Another time at a restaurant when he was acting up, she took him to the restroom to show him “what Eastern European discipline was really all about”, and after that was done, she told him if he cried, she’d repeat the lesson.
Ivanka did not take this time to offer an apology to her brother for being falsely accused. Instead, she shared the advice from her mother that she should wear shorter skirts.
Ivana has been buried in a simple grave with a simple marker not far from the first tee at Donald’s Bedminster golf course. He had been trying to create a family grave site at the golf course as far back as 2007, but his various proposals were rejected until now.
Her grave on his property gives him tax breaks and exemptions from taxes because it’s now a cemetery. It also exempts the the property from being seized as the result of any kind of lawsuit.
This one probably won’t mean anything to anyone outside of maybe @Rizak (and even that’s doubtful) but it hit a bit hard for me. I remember reading his column in the local paper, and I have one of his books autographed by the then-Mayor of Toronto.
