That made me laugh way more than it should have

Well done and positive youtube for the day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xG1T0URuTWw&feature=youtu.be

(Summary: Godzilla’s child is transgender and the various monsters are pretty OK about it. Apparently Toho was totally cool with this.)

Long live His Grumpiness!

That’s one evil looking cat…

San Diego Comic Con starts today as an online event. 350 panels and most will be available to watch for a while after the convention ends.

If anyone’s looking for a gift for me, I so want to order these for myself:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/561141576/rpg-monster-coasters-set-of-4-or-6?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=monster+coaster&ref=sr_gallery-1-5

On a related note, does thinking about buying real coasters to protect my new desk count as a sign of maturity?

At least it didn’t go through the weird attempt at a comeback and descent into clickbait that led to http://cracked.com .

So, they destroyed vintage D&D manuals to decoupage the cut-up pages onto tumbled stone coasters, then sprayed a coat of finish over? No. Thank you, but no. If they had made copies of the pages and done a sublimate printing I would approve.
That shop also has a lot of ‘spell candles’. “I’m attacking the darkness!”
Well, I can’t complain about their marketing strategy. They’ve made 3x the sales in 3 years that I’ve done in 13.

I broke down and ordered a set.

I’m guessing they’re ‘cheating’ a bit, as many Etsy stores do. Some combination of:

  • They bought a bunch or the reprints from a few years ago (I saw some cheap a few times, especially if you don’t care about having the fancy ‘gold edging’ releases)
  • They’re actually made from prints from scans (or the cleaned up PDFs) some of which even have the next page visible through it as shown here.
  • Sources are mostly damaged books.
  • There’s “padding” by using a couple book pieces and a lot of plain paper for thickness.

I’m guessing some combination of the above to be honest. Will be interesting to see which 4 I get. I’m tired of using folded paper towels for coasters at my desk.

How long do bitters last? Thinking of grabbing some, but lack of immediate ideas for them scares me away.

I hear that all the time.
“I know I should be interested in bitters, but I don’t really know what to use them for.”
Of course, it’s easier for me because I have them all at hand and use them for everything. I use them as a liquid extension of my spice cupboard and put them in cooking and baking, too. They’re just powerful flavour extracts when you come down to it.
They’re made with alcohol, so they last pretty much forever. I’m still working my way through the last 2 bottles of a root beer flavour that I love that didn’t sell well. They’re about 8 years old now.
I’m working on a chocolate one that is just ready to sell now. I have to put it into bottles soon.

I love this guy’s channel. He has shown me all kinds of fun stuff.

This video is about how to turn your old, new, or broken phone into a laptop. I’m sure that if you watch the video you’ll see all kinds of uses. It looks a lot better and cheaper than a Chromebook. Of course, you still have to build it yourself.

Aluminum is a great choice for durability, but I think I’d choose an old plastic power tool case to modify. Portable, durable, stealthy, has a handle, hinges, and a closure. Plus, I think there would be an added cool factor. I’d put on some gas struts to keep the lid open. Oo. Now I’m getting some interesting ideas. I just need to find an old Samsung Galaxy 8 or higher for cheap. The other components add up to a couple hundred dollars new.

I can see a few use cases for this. Mostly younger people who have never owned a computer and try to do everything on their phone. If you could just plug your daily driver into this when you got home, it would charge your phone and give you a bigger screen to work with. Picture editing is pretty sweet on a phone now, but painful to do on a smallish screen.

schweet, gotta watch this!

Thanx!

Quite possibly the most interesting time-lapse video I’ve seen. Incorporating a photo stacking technique with the video to give a very unique look at the motion in the sky.
