The Hudson Bay Company is bringing back Zellers stores (where the lowest price is the law)!

Having a healthy prostate at my age is a good thing. Still waiting for the blood test results to be returned.

Edit - results is in, and I’m in the all clear.

Yay.

Whose Line is it Anyway will be at the Puyallup Fair (Washington State Fair) next month. I might be able to go see them.

This. It is amazing that we are still learning things, or unlearning them, every damn day. It’s also not surprising that the first thing a community does when presented with evidence against a hypothesis is circle the wagons.

I read a book years ago that talked about the scientific pyramid, where grad students are forced to take positions that agree with the scientists, or prevailing theory, have. Then when those grad students become full researchers they are locked into that position, and when/if they lead departments the stakes are even higher. In order to accept new information they would have to repudiate decades of their own work, as well as that of hundreds, if not thousands, of other scientists and their funding.

With something like the Big Bang, assuming this disproves it, which the article I linked does (Since he has made his career on fighting it), you could be seeing the destruction of hundreds of careers. Because universities, government programs, and corporations that fund these things don’t care if no one could know, obviously some people did and those were the right people to hire, not the ones they have now.

Seems like a safe bet to support the Big Bang Theory, but maybe not?

Oh, you’re one of those people who believes in space.

This is a problem in medical research too. I’m too lazy to find and link it, but someone just announced that the model of Alzheimer’s is most likely incorrect, and all the research into drugs to slow and treat it has been misguided. The worst part is that we wasted a large part of two decades going down this path; imagine where we would be if we could get that time and money back?

ETA: *possibly overstated. We went down a pathway really hard that, while part of the process, may not be as important or as solitary is insinuated.

I wouldn’t put much faith in Eric Lerner either, he’s a flake.
He believes in something called ā€œPlasma cosmologyā€, which basically translates to ā€œPlasma does stuff. If there’s a lot of plasma, it does other stuffā€
There is either no evidence to support that, or plenty of evidence, because it’s so vague it could mean anything.

While I agree that the status quo is easier, for the reasons you mentioned, it’s also easier because there’s so much evidence to support it.

I had to present my big Workday expansion project (Recruiting and Onboarding) at CAB today for approval to implement. Sailed through without a hitch, and the board is actually excited about it opening up. This is going to be a big component of my bonus next year, and it got delivered on time and on budget, despite the project lead being out on leave for three weeks due to an injury.

This seems like the best place to put it - watching the Artemis 1 pre-launch sequence on NASA TV.

Saw the Levar Burton episode of Leverage: Redemption last night. Man, that was hilarious.

I got TWO windows on my flight this morning. Makes it worth getting up at 2:45a to head out. :airplane:

I tried making soy chicken and grilled onigiri tonight: the rice balls broke up but it was excellent!

Recipe is from the website for the great show Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat.

The movers are coming tomorrow (Monday), and I finished packing the entire house yesterday. I can spend today organizing what’s left in the garage and then I’m ready. Right on schedule.
I’m a bit exhausted and my back is not doing really well, but well enough that I can keep going until it’s done.
ā€œHello Advil, my old friend.ā€
Then, on Friday and Saturday, I get to do that 2-way trip to get the U-Haul. The house is going to be very empty and lonely for those 4 days and another 4 after I get back before I leave for good.
Maybe I should schedule a rave.
I’ve set up RizakHQ in the basement for my work and personal computers, at the bar. Everything is running through a 4-bay KVM and displayed on a 40" tv. A bed is set up in the same room. I’ve got the cup, glass, plate, knife/spoon/fork, microwave, toaster oven, pot and pan for the kitchen. Dish soap and a cloth. Toilet paper. Cleaning supplies. Everything but beer and coffee. Am I forgetting anything?
It was a huge feeling of accomplishment when I put the tape on that last box last night.

I have toilets, showers, and hot water. Last night was my first real shower in far too long.

Guess what I’m going to do tonight? That’s right, I’m going to take another shower.

Solved a mathematical puzzle that I’ve been playing with for many moons.

Part 1: make a 3x3 magic square with fractions less than 1 with single digit integer numerators and denominators.

Hard. But I figured it out.

Part 2: do the same with a 4x4 square.

That one’s a bit tougher. Finally thought far enough outside the box to get an answer.

After 2 days without (Thanks, Fiona!), I got them angry pixies just SCREAMIN’ out the walls now.

Answer for the puzzles I mentioned above.

3x3

1/6 7/9 5/9
8/9 1/2 1/9
4/9 2/9 5/6

4x4

5/9 1/3 2/9 8/9
5/6 2/6 3/9 2/4
1/2 2/3 6/9 1/6
1/9 4/6 7/9 4/9

I never said the fractions had to be reduced. 8P
