That this girl is tough as nails and not only escaped by helped police catch a murderer.

Chewed through her restraints, breaking her braces, and escaped and led police to the house she was in where there were two bodies. All this while having been ā€œassaulted on the headā€ and force fed alcohol to keep her compliant.

Mass Effect LE is great

Unless you can go back in time and stop from them from buying WotC there’s a lot you can do.

Last work day before I go on two weeks’ vacation. I’ll still be at my dad’s for a lot of it, looking after him, but at least I don’t have to try and balance work and care. And Mr. TM and I are heading down to Niagara Falls on Monday for a five-day actual holiday to celebrate our anniversary (29th) and my birthday (29th + some unspecified amount!).

A quartet of videos of Mark Hamill and Jack in the box:

Jack Box wants Mark to use his Jedi mind powers

Try the French Toast Sticks

Spicy Chicken Strips are back, and so is Mark

Mark went back to work at Jack in the Box after being fired from there years ago.

(Man, it it lunch time already?)

Hope restored.

I was feeling kind of down earlier in the week, so I thought I’d walk down to the Lone Star restaurant to get a bag of fresh tortilla chips and some salsa as a treat to cheer me up. Nothing much, just a little something to improve my mood.

I got to the takeaway counter and the fellow behind the counter asked me how I was doing. I gave one of my standard responses, which wasn’t far from the truth. ā€œTerrible. Just terrible.ā€

He looked shocked. Actually shocked. I told him what I’d like to order and he shouted it into the back. When it quickly came to him, he handed it to me and said, ā€œNo charge. I hope your day improves.ā€

It was my turn to be shocked. I wasn’t feeling THAT bad, but the probably-manager decided to make a gesture and it worked. I felt great and it has made me want to share. I haven’t been to that Lone Star very often, and they’re right in my backyard, and I’m moving in a month. I’m glad I went. I’ll probably go again and see if they still make the chicken-fried steak.

That’s awesome. It’s the little acts of kindness that can make one feel great.

Debugging a problem with my astrophotography rig. I can now take images with longer than 30 seconds of exposure time.

It will be clear (and bloody cold) tonight, so the rig’s ā€œbaptism of fireā€ will commence after dark.

Managed to refine my father’s chili ā€œrecipeā€ into a new actual recipe I call ā€œThe Instant Pot Quick-Chili Abominationā€.

Takes however long it takes to brown the meat plus about 20 minutes to get nice & thick edible chili. It’d probably offend anyone from Texas who’s serious about ā€œREAL chiliā€ but I like it, roommates like it (apart from the one that won’t eat chili at all), daughter likes it, other guy in the D&D group likes it…I think I got a winner here and now I can replicate it at will as I have an ACTUAL recipe instead of a vague list of ingredients with no amounts for any of the spices.

We closed on the new house yesterday and the Dragonlady is setting up base camp there today. Lots to do. First, install the internet. Next, upgrade the electric panel from 100 to 200 amps. We ripped out the gas meter, so need new circuits for the boiler for the radiators and for the water heater. Can’t do that until the panel has more space. Luckily, our young and adorable agent has a father willing to do all of our electric work between his corporate gigs. Every plug in the house is 2 prong, so I hope we can fix that without too much damage.
Things are looking a bit more concrete now that I have a set of eyes on the scene.
The previous owners left us a lot of stuff. We bought their old dining room set and a few other things, but they also left a huge tv and some other furniture. They’ve moved into a care home and I guess just couldn’t get rid of a bunch of stuff. Bonus stuff!

On the one hand, it’s fun picking out all of the things for the house. On the other, I’m kind of shopped out.

Chose 'fridge, oven, and dishwasher. Chose outdoor lights. Chose garage lights. Chose bedroom lights. Chose dining room light. Chose toilets. Chose bathtub faucet for my ofuro. Chose backsplash tile.

That’s just today.

Edit - results is in, and I’m in the all clear.

This. It is amazing that we are still learning things, or unlearning them, every damn day. It’s also not surprising that the first thing a community does when presented with evidence against a hypothesis is circle the wagons.

I read a book years ago that talked about the scientific pyramid, where grad students are forced to take positions that agree with the scientists, or prevailing theory, have. Then when those grad students become full researchers they are locked into that position, and when/if they lead departments the stakes are even higher. In order to accept new information they would have to repudiate decades of their own work, as well as that of hundreds, if not thousands, of other scientists and their funding.

With something like the Big Bang, assuming this disproves it, which the article I linked does (Since he has made his career on fighting it), you could be seeing the destruction of hundreds of careers. Because universities, government programs, and corporations that fund these things don’t care if no one could know, obviously some people did and those were the right people to hire, not the ones they have now.

Seems like a safe bet to support the Big Bang Theory, but maybe not?

Oh, you’re one of those people who believes in space.
