Most of the rat’s nest of wires on the old power supply I have pictured outside the case weren’t even being used and were tied to the side of the case. Yeah, it’s nice having the convenience of using only the cables you need. However, the EVGA supplied cables were very thick since I believe some have inline capacitors in them. I have the excess cables stuffed in the upper bay above the optical drive with the GPU cable stuffed above the HD. Also, the distance between the HD and optical drive forced me to use 2 SATA chains, but that’s a minor issue. I’d certainly go modular again.
It’s now ready for the GPU upgrade I had planned for later this year. Due to an unexpected work bonus I received on Monday, that upgrade has now been pushed up to this Thursday. I’ll probably do an SSD upgrade instead later this year, which is probably the best performance upgrade I have left to do. That’s probably the scariest upgrade for this relative computer novice to do.
My son (a high school freshman) is just getting into robotics, currently as a programmer. I’m very proud of him. He says he doesn’t need to worry about the state of the PC, since I’m around.
