What's Your New Shiny?

I arbitrarily decided that Robot Turtles was not a birthday present but something we shall do today (my regularly scheduled day off). I popped it open and read through the instructions this morning. Very high quality printing and construction all around; it feels very durable. The basic game is pretty basic, but you can make it quite complex and add subroutines (via Function Frog). I will have fun, even if the kids don’t.

[I’m a pretty mediocre Python dabbler. Working my way through [this](http://inventwithpython.com/hacking/chapters/) right now.]

They might be able to handle Escape From Atlantis too. Not really educational except for general decision making processes, but fun and competitive without being mean.

I’m loving it so far

Noice! RAID-5?

I have a (similar) QNAP TS-651, the purchase of which I do not regret.

Synology have a smart RAID system, which is basically RAID-x plus extras, and yes, I’ve got it set up for the RAID-5 equivalent.

I’m just setting it up right now to do a backup to my Azure storage that I get as part of my MSDN license.

That’s one of the main reasons I bought my NAS, and of course the only thing I haven’t set up yet. :astonished:

I’ve been too busy investigating Exchange-esque email servers to run on it.

Looking for a new shiny.

Is the only solution to driving multiple speakers from one bluetooth device to have a base unit that broadcasts RF to speakers?

Or having a bluetooth to receiver solution that uses wires to send the signal?

Is there a solution to link to three bluetooth speakers directly?

The Bluetooth protocol is the limiting factor… the speakers have to be, generally, part of a set, and ‘know’ about each other… and be set up for that. Otherwise, nope.

My multi speaker solution right now is a BT receiver plugged into an RF transmitter with two linked speakers, it works, it just seems cumbersome. And now I have an awesome Harmon Kardon speaker that I use straight through my phone.

They did ship it like that because they screwed up and put someone else’s delivery details on the box (over the top of mine).

I’d have been very, very, very unamused if it had gotten lost.

I like my Synology NAS I got a couple years back to handle the bulk photo storage. Have it backing up offsite to AWS.

Does it count as my new shiny if I paid for the hubby to get a new iPhone?

No, I think you’ve had the hubby long enough that he doesn’t count.

You’re welcome.

I thought I’d add an update on my backup as it has only just finished.
That’s right, it took almost a week to do a single backup of around a terabyte.

I know my upload speed is a lot slower than my download speed, but that’s ludicrous.

On the plus side, now that the first backup is complete it shouldn’t be a major problem as the Synology backup system only backs up changed files - and on a daily basis that number is pretty minimal. It’ll be interesting to see how long it takes tonight.

But, sir, we’ve never gone that fast before.

This is arriving in the morning. I thought it would be a nice project for my son and I work on together as the first major upgrade to our desktop computer.
