What's Your New Shiny?

Crazy story if anyone wants to hear details, but Mrs. Dubious and I are now owners of a brand-new, June of 2021, Lance 2295.

Like this:

We had just started contacting dealers to order one, when Lance dropped them from their website. Yep, no longer in production! And heard from people on the Lance Owners forum some people got their 2295 orders cancelled!

So when we found this one we jumped, even though it doesn’t have the exact mix of options we would have chosen.

I’ll post pics of what it’s for later, but I got one of the last of the TR-122 remote control dump trucks Top Race had for sale.

Arriving today is my son’s new shiny since he cooked the $1500 MSI Gaming laptop I bought him for high school graduation 2-years ago. This time around, I decided to spend the extra money and get him a more portable machine in a bulletproof build since he averages over 20,000 steps a day at UW Madison majoring in computer science.

I won’t get to see it for a few more months, but a pi-Stomp Core programmable effects pedal should be arriving at my home very soon:

Plugable headers allow easy addition of controls and swapping components including:

  • 8 analog inputs for attaching software assignable knobs, expression pedals, sensors, etc.
  • 5 debounced switch inputs for adding assignable footswitches or pushbuttons
  • UART header for attaching DIN MIDI In/Out
  • Up to 5 multi-purpose GPIO’s can be used for output (LED’s, etc.) or digital inputs (3 if UART is used for MIDI)
  • The LCD, Audio card and Pi can even be swapped for other models

Specifications

  • Raspberry pi 1.4 Ghz, 64-bit, quad-core processor
  • Dual ins & outs, 24-bit, 48 to 96kHz stereo audio
  • True bypass on input1 via latching relay
  • High quality buffers on both inputs
  • 2.2″ 240×320 TFT Color LCD, Rotary encoder for navigation
  • USB port for MIDI in/out

Buying a conventional processor with anything like the capabilities of this thing (and without the ability to customize or modify it) would have run 3 or 4 times as much money. Cheap, DIY, programmable, music, electronics–this (if you will pardon the expression) pushes all of my buttons.

Got the 500 gig SSD in to convert my Hackintosh to a Mac Plus running Linux (plus or minus a few parts).

New Bluetooth earphones.

Freedom, no more cables that can break.

Not sure about the legal aspect of wearing these when in the car, but I’ve tried it, and it’s nice to listen to something else besides road noise.

Uh, legal or not, it’s a bad idea to be that tuned out to the traffic noise. I know that it’s illegal in Canada.

I can understand why, you need to hear where other cars are.

Will not use them, but rather a bluetooth speaker instead.

Pretty sure it’s illegal in the US too.

And it’s also illegal here. Have asked around and found out.

So I won’t do that.

In my state in the US putting earplugs or earphones in/over BOTH ears is illegal, but one ear is OK, since that’s one way to use hands free cell phones.

Helpful to be Bluetooth’ed to the phone and get turn-by-turn in your ear.

A brand new state of the art Roomba i7+ thanks to a bunch of gift certificates and a cyber Monday sale. I have a nice Dyson but the dogs make it so annoying to vacuum every single day. Now I can do it whenever I feel like it with the push of a button. And my Dyson will still get plenty of work.

We named the Roomba Succubus

Why Succubus?

Probably because it sucks.

And the dogs think it’s the devil

You have to admit, a clean house is pretty sexy. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Technically succubi are demons, not devils.

Sorry, that’s over 3 decades of D&D talking, lol.

They’ve been reclassified as of 5e I believe. I think they’re now kind of independent operatives working for anyone that can afford them as spies/recruiters/whatever.
