What's Your New Shiny?

Men In Black will come and snaffle your new shiny, mistaking it for a galaxy.

I stumbled across this insane camera lens last Friday, and just had to buy it.

Brand is unknown, age is unknown, focal length is 1000mm, objective diameter is 104mm. The only only information on the lens is ā€œMade in Japanā€.

I can’t find any information about it on the Internet, and the biggest page of information on similar lenses has nothing like it.

The cool part is that it has a standard M42 thread, so I can use it with my dedicated astro camera. My next steps are to get a custom bracket made so I can use it with my computerised GoTo mount. Using it with the electronic focuser may be more interesting, as the hand-grip part moves along the barrel of the lens as you rotate it to change the focus.

New green asphalt shingle roof and gutters all around last week.
This week, it’ll be a complete bathroom demo and reconstruction. After that, the same team will be taking apart our attic to sprayfoam, wire, and finish. Oh, and a new mini-split heat pump and windows are going in. Then, I’ll finally be able to get a lot of those boxes out of the basement and THEN start thinking about what I want to do with the kitchen.

Cool, can’t wait to see photos taken with it!

Untitled goose game.

Still figuring out, but now that I got past the intro, I’ll redo everything as I already collected the sandwiches and apple, and taken them close to where I’ve started from.

Signed paperwork on a new attic bedroom and bath. Remodeling our bathroom reminded me of how hard this shit is. And frankly we have enough equity in our house to pay for it and still pay the house off in 5 years.

I found I have to run around at time and occasionally cause distractions. Be curious and look for things you can interact with!

There’s occasional bits of borderline ā€œcartoon logicā€ in some puzzles. Mostly realistic,… but there’s exceptions, The humans are terminally dumb, which you can exploit in several ways.

I just realized your user title paired with the goose game makes for hilarity…

The lad and I have been playing Untitled Goose Game as well. Very amusing, but somewhat difficult to execute the plan to cross some of the items off your list (eg. make the gardener wear his sun hat, one player has to steal something so he bends over to grab it back, and just as he does so the other player flogs his hat from his head, and then you have to run like stink to the lake and drop it in there, so he has no alternative but to get the sun hat that’s hanging on the door of the shed and slap it on his head). Not that hard to work out, but when the screen isn’t split there is a considerable amount of cooperation needed to achieve things.

In Single Player I think you just have to be an annoyance until the people do stuff sometimes.

How do you share your steam games quickly and easily with family (on steam)?

I set it up once, but as I remember there’s a ā€Steam sharingā€ where you have to enter a code on each Steam account and games are shared with the owner of the game able to kick the non-owner off.

I’ve done this relatively recently.

There is a Family Mode in Steam - you’d need to enable that first and give each Steam user access to your library.

Then you have to authorise each device that will be used to access your library:

  1. log into your Steam account on the device(s) you want to have access to your library
  2. go to Settings → Family and flip the Authorize Library Sharing on this device toggle.
  3. Log out of your account and back in as the family member
  4. Confirm they can access your library
  5. Right-click each game you deem suitable for this family member and select Add to family view
  6. Repeat for each device
  7. I like lists

Note - when Family View is enabled, you can’t see most of the options in Steam, you have to click the green Family View button to exit Family View in order to see settings, plus games in your library you haven’t deigned suitable for that family member.

Also - remember only one copy of the game at a time can be running. That can be a bit tiresome when you want to play multiplayer.

Thank you, will do that when I really want to.

Used to be you could go offline and LAN play a single copy… not that I engage in such piratical pursuits.

New bathroom floor coming in.

Total bathroom gut and replace started in the middle of June, and I am going to call it done yesterday. Still need some wood filler and finish work, but it’s fucking done. Replaced walls, replaced surround with tile, uncovered big ass window, replaced tub, already replaced vanity last fall, replaced vinyl flooring, with slightly better vinyl planks.

I just ordered a new-ish Lenovo box. We get a pretty sweet deal through our union. This cost just over $1k and I can play some AAA games on it. It should keep me going for a few years, at least. I ordered another 8GB of RAM to hit 16. I know the 3050 has 8GB of video RAM and the 3060 has 12, but I’m only going to output 1080p and that should be fine.
Great, another keyboard and mouse to put in the bin.
