My first honey money purchase this year is going to be a P1P. I may continue using my Ender 5, but that thing is more like an old muscle car than a usable appliance for me. It’s fun to tinker with sometimes but I just want to print.
As far as my new shiny, first new shoes in a bit. And it’s awesome. Hopefully my feet won’t hurt tonight.
Also, down 40 lbs.
And finally going to post a big post about my woodshop soon.
OK, between Uncle Same saying I am 100% broken and Honey Money, I actually got a X1C Carbon. Love it, put it together and it prints! AMS is magic! God, no hand loading and extracting filament, even without switching colors during a print it’s still worth the money for me. And it’s a dry box. And I also got a SunLu filament dryer because it will save me more money than it costs to bring all my old filament back into line.
Now I am struggling between the need to print short prints for instant gratification and long ones so I have something super cool!
I picked up a good sized tablet that I can use at work to watch videos and other stuff in my copious free time. I don’t want to use the work computer to access my Plex server, so I’ll just download any kind of media I want to consume and watch it offline.
I got the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and a 1Tb MicroSD card for additional memory. I have all of my music on it already and a few full seasons of some shows I want to re-watch and a couple of movies and I’ve barely touched the available space. I got a nice folding case and keyboard so I can set it up on the desk at a viewable angle.
They’re making me go into the office 3 days a week and not giving me much to do. At home, I can use my other computers and work out in the shop.
I got an iPhone 16 this weekend. Coming from a 13, thus far I am whelmed. I haven’t played with the camera though, which is the big deal upgrade until Apple Intelligence starts rolling out.
New-to-me shiny. Went up to my sister-in-law’s place yesterday to go through a bunch of bookcases and about 15 bins of books belonging to my dad and decide what to keep and what to get rid of. Along with a bunch of fiction (Ken Follett, Wilbur Smith, some old SF, etc.) I grabbed all of the “do it yourself” series, as well as several Time Life series on gardening, sewing, and construction stuff. Y’all are going to want me on your team when the zombie apocalypse comes and there’s no internet to Google how to do stuff…
Pic is one of thirteen boxes I brought home. And there’s still about another 20 bins to go through.
A lot of Gordon R. Dickson. Most of my Dad’s SF was in his room, so I took that in the first pass after he died. I think there’s probably more in the remaining bins.
I have a full set of those handyman books as well. I’m also a proud owner of the complete set of Foxfire books. When the Americainians come for our water, we’ll be able to hide in the woods until they get cold.
I missed out on an auction for a set of I think 1934 Scientific American how to books. From how to make a grape press, to how to recondition an electric motor, and damn near everything inbetween, in simple English and using what would now be considered basic tools.
At the time it wasn’t worth $25, I’d spend twice that now.
I just bought a slightly used Sparx 2 skate sharpener that I’ll be bringing to the market with me every weekend to supplement my knife/scissor/garden tool sharpening service. This town is heavy on skate-related winter sports, so this is just a no-brainer. I’ll have paid it off after about 200 pair. With luck, by the end of the year.
Switching from an autoinjector to a vial and a needle is saving me thousands, on two different drugs. Now, I only pay the first x dollars, but insurance rates are set by usage, so dropping the dang auto injector to make the cost $33 bucks a month instead of $800 is fine. Did it with insulin ages ago for similar savings, though it’s 100% under my plan. I screw up a needle less than an auto injector fails, which is stupid because that’s supposedly why the autoinjector is so expensive.
I simultaneously love and hate sharpening. If I’m in the mood, it’s awesome, if I am in the middle of something and a tool needs sharpening it’s the end of the world. But a nice quiet day in the workshop listening to music or sort of watching a woodworking video while putting a good edge on something, and a cup of coffee, perfect.
